... Not as per the RAW but LMs allow it, if it fits the narrative, and if it isn't abused. Strictly within the RAW, recovery of Hope where aiding your Focus is only applied when spending it to add your attribute bonus to a roll.

I like using it that way, but I also play that when you are defending, you declare then spend the point for one character. if that character is a focus you get it back. if not, you don't whether they were attacked or not.
