Has anyone played it?

I was interested as it seems they have done a good job of adding some settlements in Eriador as TOR has done with Wilderland that fits the world.

I've played for a couple of years now and have enjoyed the experience. It's a little overly populated with enemies to fight, but it's a computer game.

I'm on the Brandywine server. My main character is Halbras, a Hobbit hunter. I'm also kin leader of the Watchers of Eriador - a kin dedicated to helping its members along the journey.

I played it since the beta, but gradually stopped, since I didn't know anyone else playing it, and I got tired of always going solo. That, and because of other mmorpgs, I guess. But it's a very nice game, and I had some very nice roleplaying moments there.

For instance, it's the only mmorpg I know where it's quite fun not to go on "adventures". One character, a hobbit, was quite content staying in the Shire, investigating new culinary experiences and throwing parties in his Hobbit hole (yes, you can actually have houses in this game).
Of course, I've played elven Loremasters and Guardians too.

I'm was (and am, if I'm going to play again) on the Laurelin server.

Played LotRO as well but stopped at around level 40 or so. I think I just got tired of the grind (arguably, a staple of most MMOs). A well-made game overall though.

There was a topic on the old forum, that's hopefully to be ported onto this one at some point...

I took a mannish Loremaster and dwarven Hunter to the level cap of 70th, at the time, making it through to nearly the end of Moria. I loved LOTRO more than I loved the MMO format that it ultimately couldn't transcend (for commercial reasons), but couldn't afford the time to be up-to-form for the top level content, and ultimately being second class citizen started to be disappointing.

I think they did a great job on the lore, with only modest compromises as required for a playable game. And everything about the environment was done beautifully.

I still have my lifetime membership and my stable of characters on the Laurelin server. I still miss many things about it now, and would especially love to get round the areas of the map that have opened up since.

Think I have to get back to Lotro at some point, if I can only let go of Star Trek Online a bit (I'm no Trekkie, but I'm very fond of my Romulan Vice Admiral and his crew). Anyway, if someone would like to meet up at the Laurelin server at some point, I would be happy to start playing again.

Don't think I have any active characters on Lotro now, so I'd start a new one.

Assuming you have the time, it's a great game to try for free. Plenty of content to keep you occupied for a while, before deciding to subscribe (or purchase packs) to access additional zones.

Agree, start as a free player and see if you like it. You get Ered Luin, The Shire, Breeland and The Lone Lands on free play. These will get you up to level 20-30.

The LOTRO Mithril edition pack from Turbine is usually a good purchase once you've decided you want to play more areas. You get 4 regions, a horse and 2000 turbine points (worth £20 in themselves). Keep a look on the store for offers in the region quest packs. The older regions are available at half price every now and then. I managed to get a lot of the regions this way, with a minimal purchase. I've never subscribed, but bought this and the Rohan pack.
