Other Stats for NPC's

I love the quick creation rules for NPC's, however I've run into some issues when they become combatants (on either side of the field).

Do I just arm and equip them like PC's? Is there some simpler scheme where I can just assign their arms and equipment some generic values based on how "tough" they are as a component?

Do they have Hope/Hate? If so, how much? Is there some way of just approximating it based on how difficult they are supposed to be?
