Is AiME hurting ToR?

Hi all,
I'm new to ToR. I'm reading the rules and really excited to jump into a game. I wish I had gotten into ToR earlier.
Here's what I'm finding. When I look for games, all I see in the realm of Middle-earth is the 5e version. It's next to never that I see a ToR game.
Did I find this game too late or miss it's peak? ToR feels like a work of art. It's the closest thing to literally entering Middle-earth how Tolkien created it. Short of the actual novels, this is most faithful Middle-earth product I've ever encountered.
Are most of you just playing with close friends?
Also, is this the best place for ToR discussion? The G+ site is a ghost town and r/rpg doesn't really talk about it much.

I play TOR with my wife and a bunch of close friends, and we have great fun. Don't be afraid to play with whatever pleases you. I agree that TOR is the best Middle-Earth game ever released, but you can also play D&D 5e. Games are supposed to be fun.
And no, TOR is not dead. Just keep up with the latest releases!

No, still loads coming out - a lot many of you won't know about as well as those cool ones that have been announced.

I only ever play RPGs with (close) friends so the question isn't relevant to me.

I don't know where you are located, Pen, but I don't think that TOR has ever had a strong presence in U.S. gaming stores, being seen as more of a niche product. Don't read too much into this; AiMe is bound to have a stronger physical presence due to its connections to D&D 5e.

I located in the US. Unfortunately, most of my close friends won't give RPGs a shot and online games for ToR seem non-existent.
I'm going to keep looking online and locally. Worst case, I'll play alone via Mythic GME.

Judging by the slightly alarmingly high level of sales of the back-in-stock TOR screen overnight, I would say AME has done great things for TOR.

One suggestion: start a separate thread here asking if there are any online games (PbM, Roll20, etc) that have a spare slot for you. Provide a little be of detail about where you're located (as time differences may be important depending on the medium) and your experience. See if you get a response. You can always 'bump' the thread when it falls off the first page of the forum if you get no immediate luck with responses.

That's great news.
Don't get me wrong. I love ToR and have no animosity towards AiME.
ToR i's a beautiful game in it's mechanics and layout. I'm actually amazed by it. I'm just having trouble finding a game. Everyone online and locally (NC) seems to be playing AiME instead of ToR.
Hopefully, your forums here will help me find one : )

Thanks Rich. I will give this a shot.

Totally understood, and no negative inference was taken. One of the reasons we made AME was the sheer number of people we met at conventions who just won't touch a new system. Which is a lasting sadness, because there's some amazing things to discover in TOR! But then hey, we also understand the pressure on people's time too.
