Have you played the videogame War in the North?
Even if you haven't, I'm sure there are videos on youtube with full gameplays or such.
If you take out a lot of the action and hacking&slashing, the history behind, the big NPCs, and the story are very well fitted for a Northern campaign. Also, you can always use images from the game's concept art to illustrate the campaign, and its soundtrack for atmosphere. Both are fully PJ's film-oriented, but that's not so bad, either.

Or, if you want a more southerner campaign, I'm sure Oaths of the Riddermark can be played during the (good) times of Théoden, and you might introduce some characters from Gondor. Boromir and Faramir might have travelled to Rohan during their time (escorted by Beregond), Saruman will be more active, Gandalf would be found there, too (watch him choose the Meara from Theóden's stables!).

The MERP modules Arnor and Angmar, Empire of the Witch King, likely available as abandonware are worth looking at (they are among the better MERP products - esp Arnor). They're both set in 1640, so much of their content wouldn't be usable, but I think there were some good villains among the Witch King's generals that might be adaptable for the kind of adventures you are thinking of. It would be some work to convert people - when I have done this I have really just taken the NPC's outline and made a TOR character that sort of fits.

Not to, uh, harp on your parade, OP, but did you find my post (viewtopic.php?t=4839) and just copy and paste essentially word-for-word what I asked about?

It's cool if you have an idea to run the same type of campaign, and I can give you some solid advice, since I've been running mine for about 8 months, but... yeah.

Thanks for posting that, Curulon.

This is happening quite a lot (people copy/pasting an older post). I think it's a clever way of spammers to make it look like they are real posters and to then post spam related content at a later date.

I've therefore reported the OP.

Happy to help! I thought it looked off, considering it was the exact same post.

Yeah. Spammer's are copy/pasting older posts and then changing them at a later date with spam/adverts. Harder to spot but the spam cops are an adaptable and resilient bunch! ;)

The copycat has been banned, under suspicion of being a spammer that retroactively edits their poet once it’s gotten attention.

Thanks for the catch.

I’m going to leave the thread open, since we’ve had valid responses to the copycat but I’ll be editing the OP once I get a chance (ie not going to do it on my phone).

If we're not careful, then next the spammers will start trying to assimilate all of us!

Resistance is futile!

Or go the other way—in order to make their posts more and more authentic and keep tricking us, they're going to have to learn more and more about TOR, until, inevitably, we'll notice their posts mentioning details from actual campaigns that they're needing to run to keep the charade going . . . until, hey presto, they're triple agents who don't even know what's real anymore, and then they give in, and just become genuine TOR fanatics.

So, I say, let's bait them when they try to bait us—draw them in.
