What do you hope to see in future releases?
What do you hope to see in future releases?
Many of us are excited about the game's future and share our ideas about what we hope to see. Some of the C7 staff and contractors read these Forums, so let's compile our wish lists into a single thread for them. Who knows, they may see something they decide to include
For myself:
1. Another adventure with a dragon.
2. I hope that Ruins of the North includes an adventure that pits the heroes against the servants of the Enemy as far northward as Carn Dûm.
3. A plot involving Ruffians that infiltrate the Bree-land. Bill Ferny & his lot can be a blast. I don't know if they'll work on anything west of the Old Forest (IIRC, Gareth once said that he envisioned The Shire as more of a sanctuary & that may still hold for the others).
4. An adventure in The Horse-lords of Rohan involving the descendants of Freca & Wulf. Perhaps Wulf's great-great (etc.) grandson slips into Freca's former stronghold at the source of the Adorn, & an unsavory chap, soon to be known as Wormtongue, visits him with an offer he can't refuse...

I'm still laughing Elfcrusher, well said! Yes, I concur; I was somewhat disappointed not to see that on the schedule, but I'm still enthusiastic about their plans & hopeful that we'll see the Dwarrowdelf on down the road.
Re: What do you hope to see in future releases?
My hope is that they keep the "region mood" that has been implanted by the Mirkwood supplements. That is, everything about the Edge of the Wild has the Decay and Shadow mood in it: everything begins at the top (Erebor is free from it's dragon, Dale is rebuild, Lake-Town is a center of trade again, all races are friendly to each other, the Eagles and Beorn are allies and not secluded anymore, etc.) and, as years pass by, the Shadow grows and all that happiness and perfect world goes down the slope bit by bit.
Eriador always held for me some kind of Melancholy Mood: Rivendell is but a glimpse of the former glory of the elves of Eregion, as Fornost/Annuminas/Weathertop/... are ruins of the ancient greatest kingdom of the Dúnedain. The Barrow Downs were the tombs of High Kings, and now they are home to wights who have corrupted their heirloom. Even Angmar is a residual threat of a great Enemy. And the Shire or Bree are but islands of hope that only resist to the Shadow and decayment because of their ignorance of the outside world. To Bree-landers even Hobbiton is a "foreign land"! The Old Forest is what remains of the greatest forest of Endor, that was populated by Ents and treaded by elves. And the Green Way that connected Arnor and Gondor is now called that way because of the grass that grows between the pavement stones.
Everything in Eriador reminds the traveller of glories of old times that will never come back.
And the South (Rohan/Gondor) has a more Epic Mood. It's probably due to the fact that the two great battles of the LotR (Helm's Deep and Fields of Pelennor) are fought there, but there's some kind of all-or-nothing atmosphere there: the inhabitants of Rohan and Gondor live door to door with their enemies (Saruman and Mordor) and don't have much choice -surrender or fight to death. The cards are on the table and the choices of the heroes are not taken because they think they can win, but because they belief they must win. Knowledge is not the way of the South (see what happens to Saruman or Denethor, that because of the Palantiri end up knowing too much), only the Heart can guide heroes beyond all hope (Faramir), and that's what leads to epic decisions, confronting overwhelming odds because one's cause is just and someone has to fight for it.
I don't care if they cover Moria, Helm's Deep or the Forochel, but if they keep a spirit like they've done until now, then every location covered will be a place full of adventure.

Excellent post, Falenthal. I agree with everything.
The only place we may differ is that I see Moria as a region itself, not as a location within a region.

Well, I expect some of the 2014 release schedule to spill over into 2015. I'd also like to see Moria and Gondor covered, particularly Minas Tirith (although I already have a very nice MERP suppliment for Minas Tirith that I can make do with). Also, coverage of the borderlands of Forodwaich, Rhun, Umbar, Haradwaich and Khund.

Me having a pointed-ear elf as an avatar and you being called "Elfcrusher", that's a really nice compliment on your behalf!!Elfcrusher wrote:Excellent post, Falenthal. I agree with everything.

Regarding Moria, yes, I agree with you that it deserves a single supplement for itself. It could home also some kind of TOR-Underground rules to it. The question to me is: should it be set before or after Gandalf slew the Balrog? I don't know if the license has any limit to this, but both ways it should be very interesting.

Re: What do you hope to see in future releases?
Not sure why people are 'worried' that the release schedule will go into 2015. Of course it goes into 2015 Dom didn't say 'this is what we hope to put out in 2014' he said 'this is how we see future releases' and has carefully only stated a season rather than a particular month.
Many of us in our enthusiasm have applied things both Dom and Jon did not say to the schedule and will moan and complain when our falsified expectations are not met.
Summer probably means that they will get product out for Gencon because that makes marketing sense. So we should have the revised/2nd Edition core rules out then.
Autumn generally means up until December so from a marketing viewpoint expect something in time for Christmas.
Winter is usually January to March so expect anything scheduled for Winter to appear up to March 2015.

One can hope to see a winter release in December, even if more than one is too much to expect.Hermes Serpent wrote:Not sure why people are 'worried' that the release schedule will go into 2015. Of course, if we were using the Shire Reckoning, we could expect to see a winter release any time after mid-November!
