My hope is that they keep the "region mood" that has been implanted by the Mirkwood supplements. That is, everything about the Edge of the Wild has the Decay and Shadow mood in it: everything begins at the top (Erebor is free from it's dragon, Dale is rebuild, Lake-Town is a center of trade again, all races are friendly to each other, the Eagles and Beorn are allies and not secluded anymore, etc.) and, as years pass by, the Shadow grows and all that happiness and perfect world goes down the slope bit by bit.
Eriador always held for me some kind of Melancholy Mood: Rivendell is but a glimpse of the former glory of the elves of Eregion, as Fornost/Annuminas/Weathertop/... are ruins of the ancient greatest kingdom of the Dúnedain. The Barrow Downs were the tombs of High Kings, and now they are home to wights who have corrupted their heirloom. Even Angmar is a residual threat of a great Enemy. And the Shire or Bree are but islands of hope that only resist to the Shadow and decayment because of their ignorance of the outside world. To Bree-landers even Hobbiton is a "foreign land"! The Old Forest is what remains of the greatest forest of Endor, that was populated by Ents and treaded by elves. And the Green Way that connected Arnor and Gondor is now called that way because of the grass that grows between the pavement stones.
Everything in Eriador reminds the traveller of glories of old times that will never come back.
And the South (Rohan/Gondor) has a more Epic Mood. It's probably due to the fact that the two great battles of the LotR (Helm's Deep and Fields of Pelennor) are fought there, but there's some kind of all-or-nothing atmosphere there: the inhabitants of Rohan and Gondor live door to door with their enemies (Saruman and Mordor) and don't have much choice -surrender or fight to death. The cards are on the table and the choices of the heroes are not taken because they think they can win, but because they belief they must win. Knowledge is not the way of the South (see what happens to Saruman or Denethor, that because of the Palantiri end up knowing too much), only the Heart can guide heroes beyond all hope (Faramir), and that's what leads to epic decisions, confronting overwhelming odds because one's cause is just and someone has to fight for it.
I don't care if they cover Moria, Helm's Deep or the Forochel, but if they keep a spirit like they've done until now, then every location covered will be a place full of adventure.
