Hobbit-sense / Art of Disappearing
Hobbit-sense / Art of Disappearing
I find it a bit strange that "Hobbit-sense" is the Cultural Blessing of Hobbit characters and that "Art of Disappearing" is just a Virtue which is optionally available to them.
Do you also think it should be the other way around?

Re: Hobbit-sense / Art of Disappearing
Not quite.
In my mind many virtues represent a refinement of the natural aptitude of a culture. Hobbits are pretty good at hiding (hence the generally high Stealth score) but maximizing to the point of being almost invisible requires something more tha just skill.
Moreover if I have to pick a virtue to compare I would go with Small Folk.

I think that Small Folk is vastly under-rated: if a hobbit has Small Folk and gets to 3 or more with a sword skill all he or she needs to do then is to pick on big guys to attack. Taking a Defensive posture with this Hobbit bonus makes him a regular troll execution machine. This is mostly because he is very hard to hit. This first occurred when the hobbit was thrown to the 'Dream Troll' enemy in 'Those who Tarry no more' and he easily sliced the lumbering beast apart. Since then you just can't stop him from stone troll hunting.

I almost feel that it is too powerful a feature: except that it is so funny to see - poor old Bert Tom and Bill!

King's Blade had a bug but it's fixed now. Still, with King's Blade AND Small Folk, win rate versus Stone Troll is quite high. I tried "Witty Gentleman" (favored Wits of 9), with King's Blade, Small Folk, 4 ranks in sword skill, and then threw in Fell. Win rate popped to 60% (if you allow some Hope expenditure...it turns misses into Pierces).Dunheved wrote:I think that Small Folk is vastly under-rated: if a hobbit has Small Folk and gets to 3 or more with a sword skill all he or she needs to do then is to pick on big guys to attack. Then I switched from Defensive to Open and win rate dropped to 35%. Guess that extra +3 parry makes a pretty massive difference.

Hey Elfcrusher... great web utility.
Can I beg you to add radio buttons for the following stuff; it would change my Hobbit's combat utility somewhat! Mastery that improves your favoured Wits - which works very well in tandem with Small Folk! Also Brave at a Pinch makes Hope expenditure when weary - count as non Weary. I feel this would make murder hobbits even more powerful on your simulator!

Sure, I'll add that to the queue. (So many options to add...)artaxerxes wrote:Hey Elfcrusher... great web utility.

At the moment the code is in pieces all over my desk. It grew organically and I'm finally refactoring and cleaning it up. Planning ahead is for pussies.

"Brave in a Pinch" added, also Woodman's "Hound of Mirkwood" (the basic version that takes a wound for you.)
I'll work on the Mastery next. It will have to be 3 separate options I guess.
I changed a LOT of stuff on this latest version, so please tell me if you break it, and if so what the settings were. (In general it's safest to run once, and if that works run it 100 times, and if that works try the full monty.)

Ok, added Gifted (all 3 flavors) also.
If you tried to use it in between this post and my previous one it was broken. Sorry.

Just added "A Hunter's Resolve" for Woodmen, set to trigger when Endurance drops below Fatigue (so you also have to allow him to spend at least one Hope point.)
Wow....fighting in Forward stance some of the biggest increases in win rates I've seen for any reward or virtue. Burns through a lot of Hope, though.
