I see no reason a parrying dagger or off-hand blade couldn't be substituted using the same mechanic. It might require a little tweak but there is something in the rules that would seem to support it.
Following on from this idea I quickly rattled up this as a common virtue available to all who wish to purchase it:

Blades of the Corsair (Two Weapon-Fighting)

You have learnt to wield a second weapon - a fighting style associated with the infamous Corsairs of Umbar, pirates of the southern oceans.

• If you are fighting using two weapons, when you successfully hit an enemy roll the Feat die again: on a roll of 8+ you inflict an additional loss of Endurance equal to your Damage rating plus the Encumbrance value of your second weapon (0 for a Dagger, 1 for a Shortsword, 2 for a Sword/Axe).

Flashy, for those that like to be flashy without being too over balanced (same as the Lake town shield virtue).

I like this. I see it as especially useful and appropriate for Rangers, Wood-elves and burglar-characters (all characters who may not use shields much).
