Hey,
When your current character dies or you retire that character, do you get additional experience to spend on a new character depending on how far you developed your first character?
If so, what levels of additional experience do you get depending on how far you took your first character and where can i find this in the book?
Thanks!

It's in the Loremaster book, towards the end. I forget what page.
To get a relevant amount of XP, though, the old character needed to be very strong.

The Heroic Heritage table is found on page 120 of the Loremaster's Book.

I have a different question. Is the extra XP granted by a heroic heritage added to the 10XP every character gets to customize, or is it 'normal xp' to be spent as if there was an invisible fellowship phase?

I was wondering about the same question?
I'm assuming it's for character creation as by experimenting, my new character (who gets 8xp) is close to but not as good as my current dwarf (who is on 60xp i think). If it's normal xp then the Hobbit i was making would only be marginally better than a starting character.

If these XPs are normal ones, then surely the new character should also get advancement points, but since that is not the case, then I'm sure it is meant to be used on the Character Development table.
But I have another question. Why is the Heroic heritage so small? It's not very advantageous for a player to sacrifice himself for the Group, if he starts at such a low power level compared to the surviving players...
Let's face it; there is a big difference between 100XP and 10XP. And the character even has to use these XPs on common skills as well.
The only advantage I see, that is worth something is full hope and zero shadow.
Cheers

There are more rules coming for the development of second-generation Adventureres, "...expanded rules for generational play," in The Adventurer's Companion due out this autumn (if we are lucky).

I would think that the additional XP you get from retiring a character would be in addition to your character creation XP and follow the same format. Otherwise you end up making a new character who is well behind the other party members of your group and at a severe disadvantage when you come up against enemies who are at a similar level to the rest of your group.

With the amount of XP given in the rules, you will be at a disadvantage anyway. But I don't think it's supposed to be advantageous to sacrifice yourself for the group; it's supposed to be a loss anyway. A loss slightly mitigated by a higher amount of starting XP.
One of my players recently retired. I gave him the prescribed amount of XP, but I also gave him an additional point in Valour or Wisdom. Even then, he's a lot more vulnerable to Fear and Corruption than the others.
