Fell Speed & Snake Like Speed
Fell Speed & Snake Like Speed
A creature with Fell Speed can choose to leave the field of combat at the beginning of any round.
In the case of flying creatures, (or any for that matter) will the characters be able to take a "parting shot" on their turn?
Or does the creature simply fly/run away before an action can be taken?
Also on Snake Like Speed, it says when a Hero rolls for an attack against a creature with Snake Like Speed, the creature may spend a point of Hate to double its parry,
Can this be invoked for multiple attacks in the same round?

Re: Fell Speed & Snake Like Speed
There's nothing in the rules about this, I guess it would depend from the situation at hand. For example if the hero in engaged with another enemy I wouldn't allow this and I would probably restrict the parting shot against flying opponent only to heroes with ranger weapons at hand (i.e. in Rearguard).venger wrote:A creature with Fell Speed can choose to leave the field of combat at the beginning of any round.

I don't see why not.venger wrote:Also on Snake Like Speed, it says when a Hero rolls for an attack against a creature with Snake Like Speed, the creature may spend a point of Hate to double its parry,

This is the type of situation where the third use of traits applies:
Ie only a character with 'swift ' or similar trait would be able to act- the adversary is FAST remember!
In general I utilise the full potential of a creature, especially if intelligent, so I say yes to your second question

Re: Fell Speed & Snake Like Speed
I'm not sure I would allow Snake like Speed to be used against two separate opponents in the same round. Presumably the ability signifies an adversary using all of their agility and reflexes to avoid a blow. If that adversary is capable of doing that to two enemies simultaneously, then it wouldn't really tax their abilities against a single enemy.
Maybe allow the adversary to distribute the points across two attacks, but not get the full bonus for both?

Re: Fell Speed & Snake Like Speed
Considering that Hate is a finite resource, even more than Hope, I think it's fair game. Considering that Most of the biggest opponents around have a maximum Hate of 10 (as far as I remember only the Lieutenant of Dol Guldur has 12) this tactic come with some major drawbacks. In theory a group can gang up on a opponet with Snake-like speed to force him to burn through his reserve of Hate.Elfcrusher wrote:I'm not sure I would allow Snake like Speed to be used against two separate opponents in the same round. Re: Fell Speed & Snake Like Speed
I wasn't thinking resources as much as...logic?
I'll be more extreme: if he can tap into a special ability and avoid five attacks simultaneously, then his reflexes are not "snake like" they're "photon like".
Then again, I guess you could say that in a single round the attacks don't come simultaneously.

Logic be darned.
If the enemy has to go through Snake Like Speed to Matrix Dodge the entire fellowship, they'll just grin, say 'betcha can't do that twice...' and proceed to prove that no, he can't. A foe that must rely on snakelike speed to live is only going to live one round longer for having it.

Re: Fell Speed & Snake Like Speed
My reply of yesterday got eaten. In a nut shell, I would treat Fell Speed like a player hero disengaging from combat. If the creature succeeds in its roll to disengage it does so at the beginning of the round (rather than the end like PCs) I would allow characters in rearward stance with ready missile weapons to take a parting shot at it.
As for Snake Like Speec I don't see why it can't be used against multiple attacks in the same round, as long as the Hate points hold out. As others have pointed out this is a self limiting tactic.

I'd say the players don't get the attack. If they were able to, then it wouldn't take effect at the top of the round.

Thank you for the replies.
About Fell Speed, No Attacks if the Creature decides to Flee sounds good, except maybe under certain circumstances.
