Post by Trane112 » Wed Mar 26, 2014 1:15 pm

Hello everbody,

I am new here and I have a question. Is there someone planning to use Realm Works from Wolflair?
This is Campaign Managment Software for GMs and is coming out this month.

Looks cool. I already do a lot of this using MS OneNote and PowerPoint slides. The price would have to be right, though.

It's out now and the price is $49,99. I tried it this morning and it looks great, I recommend it to every LM here :D

Obsidian Portal is first rate for keeping track of an ongoing campaign. Realm Works is meant for detailed planning. I've been tinkering with the pre-release. The learning curve is steep but I can see people who master it getting a LOT out of it.

Having worked a bit professionally with complicated link diagrams that communicate relationships between persons, places, and organizations, I 100% believe in their utility for gaming. THAT is where I think this product would shine and would love to hear what folks think of it after playing with it for a while. It's certainly possible to use tags to categorize information on Obsidian Portal, but for me, at least, nothing beats being able to see all the connections visually and being able to manipulate connections and add nodes without having to update several dozen wiki entries.

Unfortunately, all the stuff I've used professionally is very expensive and hard to get unless you work security/defense. So, IF this does what I think it does, it could be pretty sweet.

I am now entering most of the stuff form The One Ring like places, people and enemies so that I can start with my first campaign. In a couple of weeks I will have my first session and I will let you all know went. But my first impression is that Realm Works it is really good, it all becomes a whole and everything is interrelate. I'm very happy with my purchase :D

Yeah, I backed the Kickstarter and have had it for awhile. It's pretty awesome. I'm using it for the One Ring -- smart-linking on maps is pretty great. I would love to do up a set of Hero Lab data files for TOR since you can integrate HL with RW, too, but I don't think I'll have the time or mental bandwidth anytime soon. :(

That said, statblock snippets and tags work pretty well.

I am just starting to enter my TOR info into Realm Works as well. I'd love to see how others are organizing their info. I also wonder what is permissible for sharing the workload? I would think that general Middle Earth stuff could be shared, as most of that already widely shared on on-line forums and such.

On a Mac over here, so RW unfortunately isn't of much use to me. I use Scrivener for my planning, and Roll20 for playing.
