TOR: the Peter Jackson variant

Post by Glorelendil » Mon Apr 07, 2014 6:11 pm

(Sorry, I should have posted this on April 1st.)

House Rules for Peter Jackson TOR:
  • Weapon Skill now has a max rank of 12 instead of 6.

Parry is now computed by adding together Wits and Body. Heck, throw Heart in there, too.

You also get a bonus to Parry equal to your weapon skill.

You no longer only use the Feat die when checking the Edge score of your weapon: you use the total of the roll. That's you...monsters only use the Feat die.

Subtract your weapon skill from the number of dice your opponent gets to roll for Protection.

If you happen to also roll Edge with the Feat die alone, it means you strike multiple opponents with a single attack. The total number of opponents hit is equal to your weapon skill.

In the unlikely event you fail to Wound your target, always add Favoured Body to your damage.

    Add your weapon skill, too.

You get a number of attacks per turn equal to your weapon skill. Since most hits now kill opponents, each attack can be on a separate target.

Every time an opponent dies, regain a number of Hope points equal to its Attribute Level. (Hard Core variant: divide these points up among the Fellowship. Ha! Just kidding.)

Dual Wielding rules: Any time you miss an attack, roll again for the Offhand weapon.

Also add your weapon skill to Parry (a 2nd time) if you are dual wielding.

When in doubt, add your weapon skill.

New Elf cultural blessing: You can use your bow from any stance. Also, you never run out of arrows. Don't ask how...your people would call it "magic".

New Dwarf cultural blessing: When using an axe, any time you hit an orc you chop its head off. If you roll a Sauron the orc was wearing an iron collar and your axe is notched. (Purely cosmetic.)

New Hobbit cultural reward: Ring of Power. Use it wisely.

Oh, why not.

The Surfers - new Elf of Mirkwood Cultural Virtue
"Farewell!" he said to Gandalf, "I go to find the Sun!" Then swift as a runner over firm sand he shot away, and swiftly overtaking the toiling men, with a wave of his hand he passed them, and sped into the distance, and vanished round the rocky turn.

If you have a shield, or there is one nearby, you may spend a point of Hope to surf forward. You move from Rearward to Defensive to Battle to Forward stance over the course of the combat round, and may make one attack in each stance or use that stance's special task as you move.

Can I also use this to cross bodies of water safely?

Fully realizing this was posted in jest. I do have to say that increasing the number of skill levels available (maybe not to 12) might not be such a bad idea.

What's the athletics check TN to stand on heads of two dwarves and wipe an army out?

Another rule in the PJ system is that anytime reinforcements come they must be elf archers.
