Hi All,
First time poster. Hopefully will be running my first game of TOR in the next 4-6 weeks.
One(probably of many upcoming) questions. This is regarding the use of Combat Advantages(LM 42).
Based on the quality of the Battle roll, a hero can achieve 1-3 Success Dice. Those bonus success dice, I believe from what I am reading they are 1 use only, not a "per round or per roll use" thing. For example, a hero gains 2 success dice. During the subsequent Close Quarters, the hero can use(or grant to another player) a total of 2 dice during the entirety of the combat, with the limit of 1 per turn.
Thanks!

Combat Advantage
Re: Combat Advantage
That's correct! They're one-time bonuses as the heroes take advantage of tactics and helpful situations as they arise.

Re: Combat Advantage
Also remember that bonus dice gained from Lore when planning a Journey can be used for Travel rolls, and bonus dice from Insight in Encounters, etc.etc. This is a general mechanic of the game, designed to encourage the Fellowship to work together (there are others as well, such as Fellowship Focus)

Re: Combat Advantage
I didn't realise that the Battle Combat Advantage could be shared! Interesting. For the gifted player - they must spend right away.... but at what point can it be spent by the Battle roller... say I was rolling an attack; pre-roll, post roll? In lieu of hope? Can you spend one and give one in 'a turn''?
Exploiting Combat Advantages
Heroes may spend one bonus Success die to add it
to any one of their rolls made during the ensuing
confrontation (to boost an attack roll for example) or
he may give it to another hero to spend it on one of his
own rolls (the hero who receives the die must spend it
immediately when his turn to act comes). A player may
only spend one die per turn.
Players are free to describe the advantage granted by
a free Success die in any way they see fit, but should
conform to the description of the battleground given
previously by the Loremaster.

The battle-Roll player can use them at any point during that combat.artaxerxes wrote:I didn't realise that the Battle Combat Advantage could be shared! Interesting. .
They can choose to add impromptu to another player's (bad) roll that needs a little help....
Alaric: "I drive forward with my axe in a low sweeping arc meant for the orc's belly......"(rolls a 12 total needing a 14 TN however)
Gromik: "Seeing Alaric struggling with his opponent, I shift the blade of my sword to reflect the setting sun's rays right into the eyes of orc!" (Handing a d6 to Alaric's player).
OR they can choose to add to their own roll in the same fashion as an impromptu (in lieu or Hope or in conjunction)
Alaric: "I drive forward with my axe in a low sweeping arc meant for the orc's belly.....(rolls a 12 total needing a 14 TN however). Seeing that the orc is well-defended, I take advantage of the loose soil at our feet, I kick it up into the orc's face distracting him just enough to land a telling blow." (grabbing one of his 2 d6 he set aside for his Greater Success Battle Roll).
Or you could use it to add to a Protection test
LM: "The orc's mighty blade makes a telling blow blasting past your shield and threatening to cleave you through. (roll a protection test)"
Alaric: (Rolls a 14 needing a TN 16) "In an effort to defend myself from his brutal assault I duck behind a tree to use it as cover, hoping it will intercept some of the blow." (grabbing one of his 2 d6 he set aside.)
Hope this helps
