Do some people play with online groups?
Re: Do some people play with online groups?
I have been part of a play by post game for two years now. As there was no one in my area I volunteered to be the LM ( which I do not have great skill at) so at least we could get something going. Luckily we have two players who are FAR better LM's that I am. The play by post games do tend to bleed a lot of players but, we have a core group of 3 to 4 players who seem to be in for the long haul. We are always looking for one or two to fill our ranks.

Hey Southron!
Don't sell yourself short my man. It was under your guidance that the 'force of nature' that is Regnald the Fox came to life.

Yeah, this is a good group. To anyone who might have otherwise turned their nose up at Play by Post format, let me tell you, I think it's the best format for preserving a "Tolkieny" feel to your game. You get the chance to think about what you say and do, and that allows you to breathe a little more life into the events and thus allows it to feel like an extension of Tolkien's canon instead of just a pulp action adventure. The written format just naturally fuses with Middle-earth. This is one of the most enjoyable and memorable campaigns I've ever partaken of in RPGs.Southron Loremaster wrote:Thanks!Halbarad wrote:Hey Southron!

I didn't think I was going to enjoy it, but finding people willing to play TOR in real life is very hard, as we Middle-earth geeks are spread a bit too thin. So I gave it a shot and now...well, I probably post too much rather than not enough.
Rignuth: Barding Wordweaver Wanderer in Southron Loremaster's game.
Amroth Ol'Hir: High Elf Vengeful Kin Slayer in Zedturtle's game.
Jakk O'Malli: Dwarven Orator Treasure-Hunter in Hermes Serpent's game.

I would agree with everything you write Rocco, except the bit about posting too much.

Re: Do some people play with online groups?
Hello everyone,
I'm new here and still getting my feet wet with ToR, but am an old time gamer/GM and have lots of experience with MERP and other systems. Been a Tolkien fan since I was a wee lad and got into AD&D thanks to Tolkien... then into RM/MERP from there. I've run games online for many years, using pbp and OpenRPG to run them primarily. I have tried Rolld20 as a player and might give it a try as a GM sometime in the future now that grad school is over. I started a ToR game online a month or two ago and it's still beginning to move along. Could use a few additional players as some of my players aren't very active.

If anyone is getting a 'live' online game going (via Roll20 or otherwise), do let me know via private message.
