Tracking Combat Stance

Hey All,
Played our first game last night, and it went quite well. We played "Don't Leave The Path" from TfW. Once play started, many of the rules began to make sense.
What really helped me prior to the game, for the last couple of weeks, I've been reviewing the rules and created "Cliff Notes" of them in Microsoft OneNote, and referred to them throughout the game.
The one thing I grappled with are the Combat Stances. For the session, I used Combat Mat, I believe from VoidState.
I do like the concept of the stances(and understand them fine), and the abstract positions. It is somewhat similar to Warhammer 3E, which is our main game.
However, the one thing I really like for our combats, is to set out the scene, either sketched out or terrain/miniatures. I am not at all into the square/hex counting, but I really do like to represent the battle scene to provide some positional context.
That said, has anyone ever ditched the Combat Mat and used tokens to represent the Stance? If they have used tokens, are there any out their available to use?
Thanks!
-Ed

I've used miniatures on the combat mat before now.
I'd love to hear how your game went though - do you fancy starting another thread about it? We could use some more actual play threads around here.

Back in the old forums I think James Brown suggested using coasters (circular mats sized for drinks) with the stance written around the edge and placed under miniatures. You could use some top-down tokens such as the one Wizards sell for that other game and smaller coasters underneath to mark the Stance.
For my games at UK Games Expo I'm thinking of trying the six inch Hobbit action figures for characters and coasters for the stances.

One of the things I did for my game was printed out cards for each player, in card stock, 4 different colors: pink/red for forward, white for open, yellow for defense, and blue for rearward. They had a summary of what each stance meant and what you could do (combat tasks) as well as my own houserules.
Each turn, players would use that to declare their stance and they could would also put their miniature on it. I in turn would assign bad guy miniatures to their card.
Not really a modeled battlefield, though. (Although I did do that as well, and we alternated how to integrate them, but never came up with a good method).

Voidstate's battlemat instructions note to move the mini to the Eye if the player rolls and Eye, but I don't remember there being any RAW effect from that?

...coasters for the stances. Done like those in Hobbit Tales, with culture-centric graphics on them! Damn, I won't fall asleep easily tonight...

If a character rolls an Eye on his attack, the opponents will try to Called Shot him on their next attack.

Sure, I can give it a whirl. Do you have any suggested AP's to use as a model or template?

Do you still have these cards available and would you be willing to provide them? I like this idea, sort of like Initiative cards from Savage Worlds.

PM sent. However, do let me know if you don't receive it. For some reason, 2 messages I sent are stuck in my Outbox.
