Hopefully the fellow at rpgnet won't mind me quoting him here:
This, by the way, is the sort of thing I've realized that I really need: on-the-ground experience from people who've run the game. Any kind of tidbits like this are just ridiculously invaluable, because it all helps give me a sense of the-game-as-it-is-played rather than the abstract white room of a ruleset.
This is precisely what the Fellowship of The One Ring is all about. Thank you everyone who's participated in that thread. And don't be shy about starting another if you're of a mind. There's been plenty of juicy stuff to talk about in the previews so far this week and it's only Tuesday!

Is there any kind of thread or other place to find people at a local level? Might be a good idea for new folks who come in looking to start up or join a local game. Of course many groups have a Meetup page or the like, but a centralized database/list of players and Loremasters could be very helpful.

C7 would be just replicating stuff that's already out there for no benefit really, just a hassle dealing with another database. Anyone looking for a game can start a thread here as I, and others, have done for on-line games but if there's a local Meetup RPgroup you are better off there looking for players who may not bother with a forum. There are several site specific forums for PbP or PbF games which do nothing but those sort of games. G+ has several communities dedicated to people looking for games of various kinds as well.
I know that even if there is a site dedicated to listing people looking for RPG's they don't keep their information current and contacts details can be years out of date.

Although the guy who asked about the Darkening of Mirkwood got a lot of advice about other subjects, he's still looking for suggestions about how his company might hunt the 'Bloody Ghost', if people fancy going and helping him out.

I've spread the news to the Tolkien Society Facebook forum (UK, a closed group) and also put in a little nod to the Hobbit Tales card game which I think members could pick up without getting into the more involved rpg
