New Virtue: Captain

Thinking of adding a new houserule to my campaign: "Captain"

When you select this, you can elect to take 2 fellowship members as a Fellowship Focus. You receive the benefits and accept the liabilities of both.

Discuss please. Too powerful? Unintended consequences?

More than captain it sounds like "bonding person" or something like that. It depends a lot on what you consider to be "harmed" in your saga. If it is just "hit and loses some Endurance" you are royally screwed. If it means that unless the focus is wounded or miserable it will not be considered "harmed", well, then it might be a tad powerful.

I wonder if "Captain" wouldn't be better as a Distinctive Feature? Though, application would be trickier (always the case for traits, of course).

I definitely agree that there should be _something_. I wouldn't be surprised to see a variation on this theme in Rivendell, actually.

I suspect that the section on when a FF is considered 'Harmed' might be one of those things being clarified in the updated one volume core rulebook.

For any culture? Seems to me most appropriate, flavor-wise, to Bardings.

But maybe if you called it "Shepherd" I'd think otherwise. ?

Ah. That's a good point. Yeah, currently, I'd probably go with Bardings. Shepherd I imagine for Beornings?

Sounds just fine to me, except the name. "Captain" has a military flavour and should have more to do with rallying the troops and such. Maybe "Protector" or "Guardian"?

Of those, Guardian sounds best.

As for Harmed — yeah, it's kind of fuzzy. I've told my players, "Captured, Wounded or KO'd, or publicly shamed."

What about psychic harm? E.g., Shadow points?

Not sure if this is intended as a stop gap idea, but remember they will be releasing the new Calling "Captain" in the Adventurers Companion.
