The State of The One Ring. Has it Stalled?
Re: The State of The One Ring. Has it Stalled?
I find myself somewhere between Mim and Rich ; I find the delays frustrating, but I also find the product line so amazing, I know I will be supporting it...
I feel like that poor wife who gets beat up by her husband but can't leave because she still loves him... Ok, not the greatest analogy but you get my drift...

Is Mim losing his nerve?
I can only imagine what the inconvenience it might be for the traditional tabletop groups that quickly run out of adventures and would rather to relay on the great product than resort to the fan created material or paraphrased from other ME systems. I play thru internet via PBF so it's a bit easier for me and therfore I have the luxury of being optimistic
Since the product is so good and worth well more than we are actually paying for - the quality beats those delayed months. We won’t see TOR II or TOR III, and yet another, and the next, like WFRP or DnD products, so no wonder that every book that comes out from C7 is top notch, well thought out and just a gem. This isn’t a game for the masses, so since the targeted audience of ME geeks is rather small, let them make the living in peace and not burden poor writerses and painterlings with additional burden of stress. Why wouldn’t they release the material faster if they could? Why the One Ring wasn’t carried to Mordor by the Eagles? So far they shown everybody in gaming industry that they are taking TOR seriously. So chill out guys, create some more great home brew adventures and at dawn, look to the east!
Sorry for my broken English…

Re: The State of The One Ring. Has it Stalled?
If you're feeling disappointed because of the slow release schedule, I think that's understandable.
Personally, here's the logic I use:
1) By all accounts, TOR has been a very good selling product for C7.
2) Everyone at C7, besides wanting to help make awesome games, wants to make money.
3) Therefore, since TOR sells well and C7 wants to make money, C7 staff will do everything in their power to see that TOR releases follow each other as fast a humanly possible.
4) Therefore, if TOR releases are not following each other quickly, parties other than C7 must be to blame.
5) The most likely parties to slow down TOR release schedule have to do with the complicated licensing agreements with selling TOR.
6) Therefore, C7 is not to blame, rather licensing issues are.
7) Therefore, I am not personally upset at C7, rather I am hoping that any licensing and approval issues get resolved as soon as humanly possible.

It's all just excuses for extremely poor production line management. I would also add that this is also extremely poor licensing management as well. Get some professionals.

Maybe get some manners?
Re: The State of The One Ring. Has it Stalled?
This may be a bit off-topic, though my question IS inspired by the long wait for new TOR products...
Does anyone know if the old ICE Middle-Earth products will become available as low-price PDFs at any point, along the lines of WOTC making old AD&D products available? I would buy them in a minute. Less than a minute. Seconds. Perhaps micro-seconds.

ICE no longer has the license to do Middle-Earth products, so they can't sell them.
We're watching this thread closely, guys, by the way. Please stay civil.

As a fan of SLA Industries, I know what it's like to wait for RPG books. I've been waiting for version 2 of SLA since the late nineties. Compared to that The One Ring is positively lightning fast.
And if the developers say there are books coming, I believe them. I have a lot of trust in C7 and recognise Mytholder as someone decent from the RPGnet forums. Be patient everyone.
Rpg companies are small and rpg books are difficult to put together, even without licenses to deal with. And the One Ring books are astonishingly high quality.
I'm sure there's a Tolkien quote I could use here but can't think what. Anyone?

Relax, at the end of the it's a business trying to make money to make you more products. I think my opinion is as valid as anyone else's. It's a testament to a great product but poor business model. I'm not the first to say it. That being said, I'll wipe my hands off and I'll see you in another 3 months. Maybe there will be a preview for a new book by then.
Good day.

We don't tolerate that degree of rudeness to our team. Crimso has been banned.
