Wonderous Items
Re: Wonderous Items
There are some great ideas in this thread. Well, since you rarely seem to have enough healing...
Celebrían's Talisman
In the days of Arahad I the Orcs, who had, as later appeared, long been secretly occupying strongholds in the Misty Mountains, so as to bar all the passes into Eriador, suddenly revealed themselves. In 2509 Celebrían wife of Elrond was journeying to Lórien when she was waylaid in the Redhorn Pass, and her escort being scattered by the sudden assault of the Orcs, she was seized and carried off. She was pursued and rescued by Elladan and Elrohir, but not before she had suffered torment and had received a poisoned wound. She was brought back to Imladris, and though healed in body by Elrond, lost all delight in Middle-earth and the next year went to the Havens and passed over Sea (Red Book of Westmarch, Appendix A, The North-kingdom and the Dúnedain).
It is said that ere Celebrían sailed, she gave this talisman to her beloved husband. It is possible that he might be willing to part with it to a band of chosen heroes for a special task. This red-streaked, bright green beryl dangles from a delicate silver chain.
The talisman enables the wearer to attempt to speed your recovery by making a Healing roll against a Very Easy difficulty (TN 10). If you are not unconscious you may attempt the roll yourself, or allow another character tend to you.
A successful Healing roll does not remove a Wound, nor does it restore lost Endurance points, but it lets you underline the Wounded label on your player-hero character sheet, to mark the injury as treated.
The Loremaster should not allow a failed Healing roll to be repeated until at least a day has passed, as the failure of the treatment will not be immediately apparent.
A Wounded hero whose injury was treated successfully recovers more rapidly than a hero with an untreated injury.

Re: Wonderous Items
Not really an item, but definitely wondrous.
Elven Steed
Will require a slight mod to the travel distances listed in the book.
Pony/Horse 30 miles per day
Elven Steed 40 miles per day
(assuming 10hrs of travel per day.)
These horses have been bred for speed, intelligence, strength and power that is unheard of in other horses. They can understand their masters' commands in Elvish, and will bear no riders save their masters and those their masters tell them to carry.

Re: Wonderous Items
Slowly starting to update the items to the new system.
Re: Wonderous Items
I've used Elven Steeds before you posted this... I gave them an extra 10 miles per day base over other horses, and the ability to be ridden on the elf path, as well as the elvish, and restricted rider bit.Beran wrote:Not really an item, but definitely wondrous.

Re: Wonderous Items
I never thought of the Elf Path thing. That is a good idea.
Re: Wonderous Items
Telacour (Heart Flame)
Type: Long Sword
Craftsmanship: Numenorean
Bane: Orcs
This blade was originally carried by a now unknown First Age Numenorean knight. It is a finely crafted, though unadorned, sword of very ancient design. It has seen many battles against the orcs. So, many that those foul creatures recognize it as "Orc Killer" and fear it greatly.
This weapon causes so much fear in orcs and goblins that when they face off against someone wielding the blade they cannot spend Hate during the fight.

Re: Wonderous Items
First Age Numenorean? No wonder the original owner is unknown. Rare indeed.

Re: Wonderous Items
The Ranger in one of the groups I LM'ing for found the the campaigns first Wonderous Artefact. However, it had a Curse on it. Here is what I wrote up:
Description: A sheath for a long sword, of Numenorean craftmanship, ingraved and jewelled with images from the Battle of the Last Alliance.
Blessing: Awe
Curse: The bearer looses one point of Hope if the weapon carried in the sheat is sheated without Orc blood. However, the curse is broken after the sword has slain a number of Orcs equal to the wearers Valour x 10 (more is expected from heroes of greater fame).
This Artefact was carried by a Captain in the Battle of the Last Alliance. The Captain had promised his lord that he was going to slay many Orcs, but he fell to an arrow before he could reach his foes. A curse fell on the sheath, and it still awaits Orc blood.
Thoughts?
