Sorry I can't remember exactly but it was very trial and error to get the final version which is pretty close but not exact (a few pixels out on the eastern side of the map).

My LM map ended up being 3291x2552 but I might well have cropped the top and left side as well before ending up with that.

Both of mine (Loremaster and Adventurer) are 3300 x 2550. Again, that's just the size they ended up when I converted. No cropping.

I'm wondering if there are different versions of the maps that went out with the PDF packs....

The raw pdf of my original copy that came with the pdf of the books comprises the two maps at one page each and includes the crop marks for the final production of the hard copy maps. I uploaded the whole file and got two files back from ZamZam or whatever was offered as a link earlier.

The LM map came back as 6796x5296 and 35.4mb
The Adventurers map came back as 6796x5296 and 28.5mb

I think I cropped the map file back to the crop marks shown and then reduced it by 55% and tested and cropped until it fitted. The discrepancy between my final map size of 3291x2552 and your 3300x2550 probably gives the slight differences I see after all the cropping and alterations I made.

I suspect that if I were to reduce the original jpg file to 3300x2550 I might have a map that fits more exactly.

Update: I'm starting to work on an approach that will let you load the .pdf; I think I can convert it to .jpg in the code, so that you won't have to do it manually. I'll keep backward compatibility for those who have already done the conversion.

I'll also put some instructions into the UI.

I'll post when (if?) I get that working.

Eureka it works!!

Thanks to Elfcrusher & Hermes, my map did need to be resized down as you said to 3300x2550 (or as close to).

Now I wonder if Elfcrusher & Valarian will be able to help me with a map of Southern Middle-earth:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/656 ... %20No1.png

As you can see, the hexes are the correct size as per TOR maps, but my previous attempts to merge this map with Valarian's were a dismal failure. In regards to the Terrain types I am happy to offer suggestions (for example desert regions such as The Dune Sea should be considered as severe or daunting terrain).

Wow, Robin. That's an impressive effort.

Let me think about how to incorporate it into the app. It will be a similar task to adding Rivendell this summer, so I need to do it anyway. Getting it working will also require defining the regions, which means tagging every single cell. I built a tool to make that a little bit easier the first time around (it still required clicking, but it handled the transcribing automatically); when it gets to that point with your map I'll give you access to a similar tool.

Has anyone used the loremaster's map from the 2014 pdf successfully? I have coped it to the clipboard from adobe pdf reader and resized to 3330x2550 (and 3300x2550, both) in GIMP, but I'm still off in offset and scale.

I think when I did it I used the adventurer's map as it doesn't have the hexes and maybe clipped it down to just the map by removing the borders or I could have used it with the borders left on. Can't remember exactly, it was more than two days ago.

Ok, my most successful try so far - on the exported adventurer's map (5171x3259) I crop a vertical strip of 458 pixels off both the left and right sides. If I then resize the result to 3330x2550, most locations match up.

I'm sorry it's such a headache to convert the PDF correctly. :-( That's really putting a damper on the usability of this tool.
