Eureka!

I may have cracked the code for travel dates; I re-wrote the algorithm from the ground up (cleaning up all my journey computation code in the process) and it works pretty smoothly now. I spent two points of Hope on it.

Changes:
1) The date now marks the date at which you first reach a hex, rather than the last date that you spend there. Not sure why I started out the other way around; terrible idea.
2) I added options to the settings tab for how to handle the first cell:

You may seem some odd behavior, such as a cell that should take 3 days apparently only taking two days; this is an artifact of the fact that I'm tracking decimal values, and carrying over remainders from cell to cell. Think of it as representing the reality that the Heroes won't be camping at the exact border between cells every night.

It may still be buggy, of course. I invite you all to beat on it and look for anomalies.

Re: Character Sheet...it's going to be a while before I release anything. There's a lot of painstaking .css work involved. I'm waaaaaay better at .css than I was when I started the combat simulator a couple months ago, but I still have a long way to go.

Keep working on this Elfcrusher! The total miles and the Travel roll count is messed up. Look at this:

A whopping 62 Travel rolls from Woodland Hall to Beorn's House!

Gah you beat me to it. Just noticed it myself. (I was dividing days_per_roll by days_traveled instead of vice versa.)

Fixed and pushed to server.

Total distance seems to be messed up. It's always at zero for me.

Fixed. Sorry, total rewrite of the journey algorithm isn't going to be without snags.

I second JamesBrown this is a great app Elfcrusher!

As per your point 7, I wonder if u & Valarian would be able to create a TOR map of Harad if I gave u a jpg map I have of the region (it already has hexes)? I have been wondering how to convert ICE's to the TOR terrain types

I must be doing something wrong - I have uploaded a jpg version of the LM map and doing shift-click is working, but is doing it in the wrong regions!!

Thus I have clicked into a hex for example in the Grey Mountain Narrows, but the Journey tab says I am in the Woodland Realm. I also tried to upload Valarian's map of all Middle-Earth and realised that the scales are wrong for this map.

Any ideas???

Sounds like it's the wrong size. Did you convert the official PDF map?

To get the image.
  • Open the map PDF in Adobe Reader.
  • Click on the page.
  • Right-click and Copy Image.
  • Open Paint
  • Paste the image
  • Save as JPG
  • Resize to 3300x2550 and save
My map isn't exactly the same hex locations, so doesn't work as the base for the journey calculator.

Thanks for posting that, Val. I'd missed the need to resize it. Much better now!
