Creature/NPC attribute
Creature/NPC attribute
There's a place in the LM where it mentions that any NPC that is mentioned as being a 'warrior' should always add their Attribute Level to attacks.
I'll set aside for a moment that I think it sounds a little crazy, given that warriors supposedly already have a good skill level. But more importantly, I assume this doesn't count for creatures? How do you run it?

The LM section on NPC's is mostly for building them.Heilemann wrote:There's a place in the LM where it mentions that any NPC that is mentioned as being a 'warrior' should always add their Attribute Level to attacks.

NPC's, including monsters, always add their Attribute Level to their attacks with favored weapons.
Re: Creature/NPC attribute
I mis-remembered/mis-read, this is what the LM says (p25):
You may go about your business. If the character is an adversary or is described as a fighter, the Attribute level is applied as a Damage bonus when the creature or individual hits an opponent rolling a great or extraordinary success (non-fighters do not get any Damage bonus).

P64 of LM:
Attribute Level is added as a bonus every time a creature attempts a roll using a characteristic that is favoured, and as a Damage bonus when the creature hits an opponent in combat with a Great or Extraordinary success.

Re: Creature/NPC attribute
Wait, wait. I doubt just hit me: does this mean that a monster adds 1x Attribute Level also on an Extraordinary success, or he adds 1x on a Great success and 2x on an Extraordinary success like the player characters?R.S. wrote:P64 of LM:

The description seems a bit unclear on this...

Re: Creature/NPC attribute
I've played it as adding the AL in the same way that PC's add their Damage rating, once for a Great and twice for an Extraordinary success. Doesn't seem fair otherwise

Same as I've always done, but reading carefully the description... well, all of a sudden it didn't seem so obvious!
And the doubt, somehow, still remains...!

Re: Creature/NPC attribute
Take a look at the way Damage Rating is mentioned and compare that to the phrasing of the Attribute level bonus.
Damage AB p115 "modified by a character’s Damage
bonus when the attack roll produces a great or
extraordinary result."
Brawling attacks sidebar AB p159 "additional
harm equal to the attacker’s Damage rating on
a great or extraordinary success."
Throwing Attacks AB p159 "additional loss
of Endurance equal to the attacker’s ranged
Damage rating on a great or extraordinary
success. "
Note however Shepherd's-bow AB p140
"inflict extra damage equal to your Damage rating
(regardless of the level of success)."
See that specific exclusion of extra damage for levels of success.
Based on these examples I can't see the extra AL damage being restricted to once even for two levels of success without a specific statement excluding it from being applied twice for an extraordinary success.
