So, will the maps now be tipped, loose, into the book?

Yeah, still my biggest unanswered question about the new edition. How are they handling the maps?

I hope they will be either separate some how or pull out. I hate when games publishers put a map over two bound pages in a book. They never seem to realize how much you lose in the middle. I am, hoping, that with the need of the maps in the Journey rules this won't be the case.

As promised we'll be talking all about the maps in a future update. It's a very important component of the game and we've been working hard to get an appropriate solution for providing them in a single volume format that doesn't negatively impact our retailers. (Nothing worse than maps falling out, or becoming easily damaged or stolen. Nothing worse for gamers than maps with bits missing where they're bound in.)

Especially as regions get added, I'd pay additional for a poster-sized (rolled, not folded) map.

Personally I'd be happy with a electronic copy of each map that I could take to a copy shop and have printed and encapsulated to avoid spills and stains at the table. The player map is the really important one to show the players routes and places, but the LM one could easily be in sections or even bound in in sections with a generous margin as it's used mostly for planning journey's.
Anyone wanting a paper copy could have it printed out and putting on the file a licence to print one copy for personal use would help with those copy shops that have an antedeluvian approach to printing pdf versions.

And laminated. Or printed on tyvek.
P.S. WTB: Middle Earth map wallpaper for my son's room.
