Adversaries and Called Shots

Post by Heilemann » Sat Jun 07, 2014 1:52 am

How do you run it? Do you only have adversaries do (offensive) called shots when the players roll the eye, or do you also use them when it's tactically appropriate? Maybe you have special rules of thumb per creature?

The book is a little vague on this subject, as far as I can tell, which is why I ask.

I run it as per RAW for adversaries I would consider unintelligent (trolls, wolves) but use it tactically for intelligent adversaries (orcs, spiders etc.)

Trolls tend to be a bit dull-witted, but I wouldn't go as far as reducing them to animal intelligence. Olog-hai, in particular, could be very crafty and dangerous adversaries.

It depend mostly from the ize and scope of the encounter. During minor encounters I tend to go RAW, with major encounters I prefer for the enemies to be a bit more tactically clever and effective.

Yesterday my party played the final part of "A Darkness in the marshes". During the orcs night assault in Mountains Hall it was quite a nonsense to use adversaries' called shots RAW, especially because the were all armed with poisoned weapons in order to assassinate the heroes....
