Agreed. And if everyone's been sold on a train ride to a scenic place, it's quite kosher. But if everyone is expecting a walking tour with lots of little trails to explore, they will be disappointed.

One of the things that I'm (albeit very slowly and intermittently) trying to explore in the essay is the idea of how you can reconcile Fate (railroading) and Free Will (sandbox). The Heart of Winter (né Dead of Winter) tries to explore this as well; providing a situation and locations but no preordained order of actions, other than the general goal of the adventure.
