Looking for an old article on gaming in Middle-earth

Post by Ineti » Wed Jul 09, 2014 2:55 am

Maybe someone here can help me out. Way back when I was a freelance writer and playtest coordinator for Decipher's LOTR RPG, I came across an article online written by someone I think in the scholarly Tolkien circles who wrote a lengthy article on various time periods in Middle-earth that would make for interesting adventure possibilities. Any ideas?

I recall seeing such an article in Other Minds - it's a fanzine. And a rather good one, at that. Recent issues include some material specifically for TOR.

There were several articles on this topic both in Other Hands as well as in Other Minds. Already the first Issue of OH had an article called Beyond the Third Age: Roleplaying in all ages of Arda, while Issue 9 of OM was devoted entirely to games set in the Fourth Age.
Between that, there were several other articles dealing with similar themes.

You can download all Issues of both magazines on the Other Minds website (or use the link provided in my signature).

Just ask if you have any questions to any of these and I'll try to get you all the information you seek :)

Cheers

Hey Ineti, it's great to catch-up. You wrote some wonderful articles over there (my handle was Grór) & I'm glad to see that you're also involved with ToR. This is an awesome game.

Thanks so much, folks! I'll go check out OM and OH.

Mim, thanks for the good words. I was barely involved with TOR--just helped playtest along with so many others. I'd love to do some freelance writing, but then again, who wouldn't? Judging from the supplements I've picked up, the game's in great hands and I really like this game's take on Middle-earth. I'm looking forward to running it this winter for my group.

In the meantime, once I get a little free time, I'm going to dust off two of the adventures I wrote for the Decipher game but that never got published as far as I can remember and see if I can tweak them to TOR rules and make them available for whoever wants them.

I don't know what other sites are out there for TOR resources, so if you have a few, lemme know.
