Player knowledge and TOR supplements

As it seems that most have in their possession all the TOR products, have you ever found that players knowledge ever interfered with character knowledge?

Not yet. Mostly I play with proper Tolkien nerds who wouldn't dream of doing something like this to spoil people's fun. When I've run a game for the hoi polloi down at our local club they've not had access to the C7 material so that was not an issue.

I have Loremastered almost all of Tales from Wilderland at least once. It's really tricky, trying to purge from your mind what you know.

In the end, you only spoil your own fun by denying yourself the joy of discovery. Besides, I, as a LM, am savvy enough to change up events of the story just enough to keep players off guard with respect to meta, and I assume other Loremasters are as well. (cough, Magric, cough).

I try to do the same thing.

This seems to be as good places any to ask. What do you think so far of my changes to darkness of the marshes?

Ha! I love it Zed. You and I have done very similar things with Darkness in the Marshes. When I LM'd this adventure for Halbarad and Southron Loremaster earlier this year, the broke in to the hill at the base, using a collection of digger-critters that one of the Elves with "The Speakers" trait was able to convince to help. (I was going through a Watership Down phase at the time). Then they ascended through a series of tunnels in the bowels of the hill, where they came face to face with undiluted Orc torture, enslavement and all around horror. They set a bunch of villagers free, also from the town of Stonyford. Eventually they got to the heart of the adventure as worded.

When Magric showed up, they PC's were very much suspicious of him. I played him as a bit of a cad, but basically harmless. He died within reach of the Dwimmerhorn, never having done anything wrong.
