Total buzzkill.
Sorry bout that... but it comes from the Rankin-Bass movies... 8-)
Then again, they also made the elves blue skinned in The Hobbit...

Doesn't this sound just like Saruman and Wormtongue?

“When he saw that many leaned towards him, Melkor would often walk among them, and amid his fair words others were woven, so subtly that many who heard them believed in recollection that they arose from their own thought.”

Zedturtle, if you ever develop magic for adversaries, this is a candidate.

“And Fëanor made a secret forge, of which not even Melkor was aware; and there he tempered fell swords for himself and for his sons...”

Me wants one.

Oh, I definitely will. I'm on a big reread kick now, trying to tease out everything relevant that I can.

The problem, at least with this one, is that it takes free will away from the PCs. But so does bouts of madness, so there is some precedent.

Depends how it's implemented. Played cleverly the LM could fool the players into believing the NPC.

LM: "Ok, roll Insight against TN 18.....21! Nice roll. Yeah, he seems to be telling the truth." (Inwardly: "Mwuhahahahaha!")

Here's a Virtue:
“But as the host of Fingolfin marched into Mithrim the Sun rose flaming in the West; and Fingolfin unfurled his blue and silver banners, and blew his horns, and flowers sprang beneath his marching feet, and the ages of the stars were ended.”
+10 Awe/Inspire?

Passages like that demonstrate the beauty, awe, mystery, power, magic, wonder of playing a high elf, and the problems inherent in trying to 'stat' them out. Of course, Fingolfin was no "ordinary" high elf (if such a thing exists), but if I had the right player, and the right group, I would simply allow stuff like that as an LM, if I knew I could trust the player with the proper restraint and judgment.

Flowers sprang from beneath his feet because the sun rose for the first time ever, breaking the Sleep of Yavanna, not because of an ability or property of Fingolfin. The coincidence was, of course, highly symbolic and undoubtedly planned by greater powers.

Kind of like a "Revelation" in the upcoming rules, but from the Good Guys.
