I may be reading Roc's reply wrong but that certainly isn't the case for me, so I'm not in agreement. I don't think the +1 to an attribute is enough to justify the cost of XP and the Permanent Shadow, especially when compared to other Virtues/Rewards on offer (both basic and culture related). It's easy to houserule removing the Shadow Point although I'd prefer to keep it and make the bonus better - as it is a Lesser Ring of Power.

No, you have it right, Rich. I don't know if it's underpowered, but I certainly don't think it's overpowered.

The you do agree with bluejay as the other middle point between under/overpowered is it being balanced?

I think +1 across all Attributes could be a possibility considering the artefact in question coupled with the fact you're paying XP for it and that you're also picking up a Permanent Shadow point which is a drawback and such negatives aren't applied to other Virtues/Rewards areas far as I can recall.

I can't agree with Bluejay because I haven't reached a verdict on whether it's underpowered. I have concluded that it's not overpowered. Ergo, it might be balanced. I'm still not sure.

(It's kind of that whole guilty vs. not guilty thing; we're not going to go so far as to say you're innocent, just that you're not guilty.)

I like Rich's last suggestion.

The funny part is that in WoW there's an item called "The One Ring" that gives +1 to all stats.

As I recall, it's not quite as good as the Two Ring...

Or an alternate might be "When wearing a lesser ring, one of your basic attribute values is increased by one and the associated favoured value is increased by two."

That makes it a bit more clear and gives a little extra oompgh to whatever the character has designated as being especially important to him or her.
