Questions: Rivendell Song mechanics

Post by aramis » Wed Jul 23, 2014 9:10 pm

Some questions I have from going through the song rules...

I've noticed that the bonus dice from (Battle/Insight/Travel) can't be used to boost a pool over 6 skill dice. Further, they limit to one bonus die.

(1) I can't find such a limit for Song-granted inspiration; it's stated in Rivendell as a +2d Inspiration bonus. Can this take the pool over 6 skill dice?

(2) Can a hero have more than one inspiration stored up?
(2a) If so, can they use more than one on a single task? (Not that I think they can.)

(3) Is there any way besides writing new songs to add songs to the company's song list?

(4) Is the song list a combination of each Hero's songs, or is it a list to the company? (That is, if Elestan writes a song, and then decides to Go West, does the company still get to use his songs?)
(4a) If a character winds up with a new company, do the songs they wrote get added to the new company's songs?

(4b) If the author leaves or dies, does the company lose the songs he wrote?

Inspiration from songs can't take a dice pool over 6 dice.

It says in the rules that a song is added to a company's list of songs; therefore they belong to the company, not the composer. I'm sure he still gets royalties, however.

Ok, that's really weird. I had good answers to each of the questions listed above, and now my answers are gone. Am I going crazy?

I don't know... do you know?

----

Anyways, here's my answers, again:

1. Andrew already answered this.

2. I don't think so.

3. I proposed a new Fellowship undertaking, in order to learn new songs from a sanctuary or a patron. The first song you learned would be traditional. If you spend another undertaking, you learn a thematic song. If you do it a third undertaking at that location you learn a normal song. If you are learning Elvish songs the traditional/thematic thing doesn't happen, but you have to make a Song test.

4. Again, Andrew already answered part of this. Songs belong to the company. Maybe a new member could teach a song to everyone, as an undertaking?

I saw your post within an hour of you posting it, and no answers were seen. Perhaps you enclosed it in less-than/greater-than signs, and the BBS deleted them as HTML?

Yeah, something weird happened... I remember getting interupted by the kids; and the board logged me out. But then I logged back in. I wonder if something got lost along the way...

Oh well, answers posted now.

Can a thematic song for walking for example, sung during the journey, still gives dice for lets say a combat scene in the same adventuring phase?

Does thematic songs also give bonus for other stuff than their themes as long as they were sung while the company was engaged in an activity of it's theme?
Of Finarfin's children I am the last. But my heart is still proud. What wrong did the golden house of Finarfin do that I should ask the pardon of the Valar, or be content with an isle in the sea whose native land was Aman the Blessed? Here I am mightier.
