A Champion issues a challenge

Post by Corvo » Mon Jul 28, 2014 5:10 pm

As some can remember, I run a (Darkerning of Mirkwood) campaign with a marked arthurian feel.

Next week I'm playing through Bard's marriage. Since in my campaign Bard is a veritable beacon of Hope fr the free peoples of the North, I think the Enemy would act to marr that joyous day.

So I think that a Champion will issue a challenge to try and humiliate the dalish warriors (that is, my fellowship).

I was thinking about an Easterling champion (a traditional enemy), that comes to court under a pretense of peace/diplomacy/friendship (a ruse that Sauron used many times in the books).

Now my question... what stats for said Champion?
I would like to hear the community opinion.
My Heroes are in the 50 xp range, with Valour/Wisdom/Weapon Skills in the 3-4 range. I admit I'm looking to the "Cruel Stroke" ability in Rivendell

Is he going to face all the players or just one?

Also, what's the background for the Champion? Is he a mortal, or does he carry some supernatural or divine blood/heritage/favor?
Rignuth: Barding Wordweaver Wanderer in Southron Loremaster's game.
Amroth Ol'Hir: High Elf Vengeful Kin Slayer in Zedturtle's game.
Jakk O'Malli: Dwarven Orator Treasure-Hunter in Hermes Serpent's game.

Looking at the peak monster stats... probably Long Sword 5, Movement 4F, Personality 4F, and AttLv 6; being human, his End is probably no more than 30; slapping 3d or 4d armor on him makes sense. Plus a man-bane man-slaying blade cursed to reveal itself to the Enemy. maybe similar armor.

One-o-one. He's playing by the rules, at least apparently. He's feigning a "friendly challenge", but in truth he came to humiliate the Dalish warriors, with some secret help from his Master.

So he's a mortal, with some supernatural ace in the sleeve

Yeah, I was thinking something around these lines. Equipped with a blade with Superior Keen maybe, or some type of Foe-Slaying if I feel really mean.
By the way, I'm taking inspiration from Pendragon's The Grey Knight
