Syrinscape

Found this recently and I thought I'd put it out there and see if anyone's tried it. I think I'll download the free version soon, but their pricing scheme is odd. You get a base for free then you pay around $4 for varying sound 'packs'. Seems like it could get pricey but I suppose I'll know more once I give it a whirl.

I've used an earlier version of it for a Call of Cthulhu game but the one I prefer for it's flexibility is Scene Sound as I can build up a scene exactly how I want it from free sound resources.

I was trying Syrinscape but then I found the RPG SoundMixer http://www.rpgsoundmixer.de and I am now only using this one. You have to work a little bit with it to get used to it, but I use it a lot in my games. If you search for sounds I recommend http://www.freesound.org and http://www.findsounds.com.
I am using an iPad to control the RPG SoundMixer and I really love this program. From easy things like the fellowship sitting around a campfire in the night (you can hear the fire, the wind, the forest and sometimes animal sounds) to complex things like the market in Laketown, this adds a lot to the atmosphere if you sit around the gaming table. You have to invest some time into this but it is worth it, in my opinion. The players feel much more "into the game" if they hear a well made soundscape.

Hi everybody,

This is Ben Loomes the creator of Syrinscape. I thought I might as well jump in here and give you some answers! :-)

Hi shipwreck,
What you probably need is our Subscription. You pay $6.50 a month and that gives you access to everything we ever release. You will permanently own everything we release while you are a Subscriber, PLUS while you remain a Subscriber everything in our Back Catalog will unlock for you. There's tons of great stuff, and it's growing every month. I know that $6.50 is more than FREE, but having a price does mean we can actually continue to develop and advance the product for everybody, and of course create lots of great content, which people always seem to be clamoring for. :-)

As for Hirobumi and Hermes Serpent, what you are looking for will be found in our Editor (the Syrinscape SoundSet Creator). You'll be able to drag in your own Sounds, set up all the parameters for their playback (frequency, position, volume, looping). It's just going into beta, so if your interested in giving it a go, just contact me via my e-mail address on the Syrinscape Website.

I did try the two apps you have mentioned, but neither had quite the control, sound quality or flexibility that I wanted, so that's why I set of on the journey of making my own. The audio engine we are using does automatic reverb and surround positioning too. I've now been using the editor for ages, and believe me it's super powerful and fun... It has taken ages to get a version that everyone else can use, but we are almost there!

And yes Hirobumi, I totally agree, having great Sound at the table helps my players stay immersed HUGELY!

I hope this all makes sense? Ask some more good questions if you have any more. :-)

Ben
