One Shot Adventure Ideas

Hi everyone, my group has recently finished the Tales and we have also played all the official adventures. I have the Darkening but I don't want to start a new campaign yet since I won't be in the country for six months to run it and we will also have a new guess player next session so I want to run a oneshot adventure for the group.

Any ideas or perhaps fan made adventures you know of?

If there's only a brief block of time available then you might want to put the ball in your player's court and ask them to relate how they became an adventurer.

I set these as an intro to Tales from Wilderland. It's my easy way to use the predefined characters to act out the rules. Since you sound like you have an experienced lot already you might want to run some variations or house rules with these Encounters and compare the effect of those house rules.

Tales from Wilderland. Introductory scenarios. Each of these small events might be a trigger for an ordinary citizen/farmer to choose the adventuring life... or to join with other adventurers...
Encounter 1: Scattered Orc scouts – close to a village
Random selection from the following (introduces combat rules)
1. 3 snaga
2. 2 snaga + 1 orc
3. 2 orcs
4. 1 wolf + 1 snaga (rider)
5. 4 orcs
6. 4 snaga + 2 orcs

Encounter 2: Lone Wolf – encountered in a valley, copse or cave
A wolf leader exiled from a pack. Might be older (lower endurance with greater Hate). Skills in hunting, tracking etc

Encounter 3: Wolf Pack anywhere west of the Great River or South of the Old Road
5 to 7 wolves: start with 3 wolves together and add 1 or 2 wolves per turn. Practice stances for combat.

Encounter 4: Snaga Hunters in foothills of Misty Mountains
7 to 10 snaga as a hunting party led by 2 higher snaga. They may be moving at night or resting during the day.

Encounter 5: Survivors of failed Orc raid well away from Misty Mountains
A Great Orc (with wounds/reduced Hate and Endurance) and 2 to 7 Orc soldiers. They are trying to return north westwards towards Misty Mountains. Maybe 2 – 3 snaga as scouts/guards as well.

Encounter 6: Spider’s Nest
Search for and destroy a nest on the edge of Mirkwood. 5 to 15 spiders that will make a colony otherwise.

Encounter 7: The Outlaw - A renegade Beorning or Woodman needs tracking down and (ideally) capturing. They are armed with Spear and Bow. Possible personal vendetta/reason for one of the trackers to pursue the Outlaw.

Encounter 8: The Burnt House – On a visit to a close relative’s farm, the adventurer finds it burnt out and the bodies of the family. This is a pre-cursor to the life of a Slayer or a Warden. The adventurer may choose to take on a geas in the style of Beorn. Their path is clear – to rid the area of the perpetrators.

You might find that more than one of these Encounters can be expanded as much as you want to. They are certanly easy to finish off when time gets short.

I'm ordering Hobbit Tales to help adventurers experience life as a LM a bit. Haven't got it yet though!
