Return to..a place in TfW (SPOILER)

Post by Scafloc » Thu Aug 07, 2014 7:46 pm

SPOILER ALERT!

Greetings all.
I have most of this nailed down, but I figured feedback never hurts. Here it goes.

In TfW, "Those who Tarry no Longer" my players failed. Elladan and Elrohir took Irimë with them to Rivendell, or at least her lifeless body. In the following Adventuring Phase, we played "A Darkness in the Marshes" - where the company of heroes found a strange stone, marking the entrance to a crypt that seemed to lead into the rock itself. With no time to investigate further, they fled Dwimmerhorn and went on and completed TfW.
A few months later, the company elf travelled to Rivendell and spoke to master Elrond about their strange finding in Dwimmerhorn. It was explained to him that the crypt might be an entrance to the "Dae-band", a prison realm of sorts created by the Dark lord in ancient times to keep elves from ever going West, or to the Halls of Mandos. Only their lifeless, powerless bodies are left in Middle-earth.

I'll get to the point
As it happens to be, the two dwarven brothers in the company swore an oath to, if possible, save Irimës spirit from the prison. And..well, we're going to play that Adventuring Phase come Saturday. They have the power to break the warding spells of the crypt, but question is : what are they going to find? I had some dream sequence in mind, of course - and maybe the Gibbet King left something to guard her, possibly a part of himself. Anyway, what do you guys think?

I love it. I think it's great. So this Dae-band is a spiritual prison? Where is it physically located? It seems there are some places better suited than others for it.
Rignuth: Barding Wordweaver Wanderer in Southron Loremaster's game.
Amroth Ol'Hir: High Elf Vengeful Kin Slayer in Zedturtle's game.
Jakk O'Malli: Dwarven Orator Treasure-Hunter in Hermes Serpent's game.

Well, since I got a little carried away (and didn't think ahead) while we played "A Darkness in the Marshes", it's physical location is "inside" Dwimmerhorn, the rock itself. The physical location need not be large though, a small network of caves - the walls covered in unknown, and powerful spells to keep the one who enters in the "dream" landscape, together with the lost elven spirits. A lot of "s going on here, by the way :)

And yes, a sort of spirit prison. I believe dae means shadow, and band means prison in Sindarin. So Shadow-prison..I suppose :geek:
The point is, the entrance at Dwimmerhorn (in my campaign) is one of a number, so I guess they could be anywhere really, as long as the place is tainted by the Shadow.

I had a plan about letting the Company try to break into Minas Raug and steal forbidden lore, since the warding stone of the Dae-band is engraved with ancient spells. Spells the Sorceress might actually have learnt, or at least have information about. Either break into, or somehow negotiate with her to get her to break open the zeal at Dwimmerhorn. They would of course owe her a big favour. The dwarves might actually gain one (or more) shadow-points, since they're "siding" with the Shadow, in this account. And them owing her a favour promises fun times ahead, I think.
