Men of the Lake

Post by James Harrison » Mon Aug 11, 2014 10:02 am

Hi,

I'm starting a Face to Face game of The One Ring up and I a quick question: Should a little something be given to the "Trader's Savvy" virtue?

Simply put the virtue seems weaker then Noble Armour: it requires a roll and can raises the Tolerance of an encounter based on anyone's Valour or Wisdom: However Noble Armour (increasing your Valour and Wisdom by +3 for Tolerance) will often have a similar (and at early adventuring better) effect.

I figured they were about even; but now the advanced rules have added "at an encounter you receive
one free Encounter advantage bonus die." for Noble Armour... Basically I was thinking of doing the exact same for Traders Savvy.

I know it's comparing Apples to Oranges, but wondered what other people felt! Am I making a mistake? Do you have better tweaks? Or am I on the right track?

Thanks for you time :-)
God bless,
james

I've never been sure why some RPGs have rules for encounters like this. It is sort of like the Social Combat rules in ASOIF rpg. I think they should be rp'd out. If the DM needs them to be neutral (or hostile) toward the party then that is what they are. If nothing else it stops confusion like this.

However, I would say you are on the right track with your idea. Though I wouldn't make it on the same level as a Noldor power.

The ability I was thinking of was meant to be Noble Armour - a Beorning power... the Noldor may have a similar power.

But thanks for the heads up. I think the +1 die will make it a much more pleasing power.
