Suggested music
Re: Suggested music
For The Darkening of Mirkwood I'm using many tracks the Dead Can Dance
Yesterday played through year 2951, and the "main theme" was The Host of Seraphim, for example

Re: Suggested music
That wasn't a rude comment but bumping a thread that is 12 hours old when no-one has posted to it and including a rolling eyes icon might be construed as having a lack of patience.
Suggesting no-one had responded to your request because they might not be using playlists or suggesting you use the built-in Search function to check for previous threads might be a reasonable response to giving you some help and in fact someone did your work for you and posted the link to a previous thread.

Re: Suggested music
Great! Too much "song" for my taste, which tends more to simple sounds, but there are lots of tracks that can be used.
Re: Suggested music
For the Marsh Bell, try this clip as background... it even has some low voices than can confuse the players!

Re: Suggested music
I use The Lord of the Rings Special Edition soundtracks (from the Ralph Bakshi & Peter Jackson...composed by Leonard Rosenman and Howard Shore, respectively), The Hobbit Special Edition soundtracks (composed by Howard Shore), the BBC Radio Music soundtracks (from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings), the trailer soundtracks for various The Lord of the Rings video games (which I use for "opening credits" for the sessions), The Lord of the Rings Online soundtracks, The Last Days of the Third Age of Middle-earth soundtrack, and Cubicle 7's YouTube soundtrack. I have them all converted to MP3 files which I play on random shuffle...it's uncanny how often the random track fits what happens in the game!Epic117 wrote:Are there any playlists that you loremasters use while in a session, if so could you share them out or recommend some music for sessions.

It's a hard and unforgiving life for some people on these boards that new people join and ask questions that may have been asked before and at the same time don't conform to the universally accepted waiting period before bumping their thread
yeah yeah I know... It's not something to joke about. It's serious business
However, I find the Cubicle 7 sound track to be quite good as well.

@JoeArcher, it's more a case of asking a question and then bumping when half the potential users of the forum that could give an answer are still asleep. Makes no sense that if you don't get an answer immediately that you post a snarky bump comment.

I don't really disagree with you, although not everyone live in the same time zone (US for instance)Hermes Serpent wrote:@JoeArcher, it's more a case of asking a question and then bumping when half the potential users of the forum that could give an answer are still asleep. At times on boards like this, the forum policing can create an annoying atmosphere, where a simple shrug at things you don't agree with, that don't pertain to the subject matter, is a better approach. I just mean it's generally better to stick to commenting on subject matters (or ignore them altogether) instead of commenting on posting habbits, grammar, linguistic presentation of said subject matter etc. I may think "That's a really stupid question and you should have searched the board" or "Your question annoys me, because there seems to be an underlying critizism of things I like" - but still I believe the best way to go about something like that is to either ignore the question or try to present a view/answer with focus purely on the subject matter. Otherwise it's just going to start silly little fights about anything but the thing we're all here do discuss and for some of us new people - to get a whole lot wiser about, by reading posts by people more experienced with the system such as yourself

Everyone's been new to something sometime, and everyone has thanked warm welcomes and good-hearted help.
Any more advices or links to older threads about music and soundtracks in rpgs?

Re: Suggested music
I use only Shore's soundtracks, to retain a consistent sound image, and I have a number of playlists, everything from Tension, to Battle, Sauron, Mystery and so on. We play over Roll20 (I stream iTunes using Nicecast), so ahead of the game I'll make sure that the playlists I'm going to use is up to snuff, or else I go through the soundtracks looking for relevant tracks, and then I queue up sound effects in Roll20 as well.
Today the company fought Valter's men at The Old Ford; it was pretty epic. I had water, galloping and neighing horses, din of battle and Shore's soundtrack all running at once. Really lifts the atmosphere of the game to a different level.
Here's my battle list.
I created the initial playlists just by having the soundtracks running while I was prepping, and whenever a track came across that retain a fairly unison 'tone' across the whole track (so no sorrowful hymns that transition to battle in the Battle playlist), I'd drop it into a playlist, or create a new one. Over time I've pruned them out and adjusted them as needed.
