Dual Wielding
Dual Wielding
So I searched a bit around the forums before posting, but didn't get the response I looked for so I felt like making this. One of my players rolled a beorning and he keeps telling me that he wants to dual wield two axes, I haven't found any rules inside the core books about this situation but it also seems un-normal to me, are there any rules or fan made ones about dual wielding in combat, I've read that some dual wielding rules are coming in Rivendell, but if any loremaster that uses dual wielding characters could shed some light on how they resolve it on their sessions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Dual Wielding
There isn't anything in the core rules about it but the consensus is basically that dual wielding is only light one-handed weapons (e.g. hand-axe, short sword, dagger) and gives either a +1 damage to the main attack or +1 parry bonus to your defence. It's an alternative to a buckler that presents a defensive/offensive bonus.
Among those GMs that don't consider it a horrendous abomination that should get players strung up for merely suggesting it that is

Re: Dual Wielding
You will find at least one thread discussing this abomination that has nothing to do with Tolkien's book and more to do with the horror that is Peter Jackson.
Valerian sums it up quite well but basically it's there is no support for this and you are likely to be on your own for cost, effectiveness etc. Rivendell has nothing about it and that was likely a forum user having a joke about the content.
You can have no doubt about which camp I'm in.

Re: Dual Wielding
Here's how to wield two weapons in The One Ring:
- Hold a weapon in either hand.
- Pick one weapon as the primary weapon.
- In combat, utterly ignore the secondary weapon, and make "Aw, yeah!" noises whenever you attack, to show how awesome cool you are.

The proponents will point out that Aragorn used TWO torches at Weathertop, and Sam picked up Sting without putting down his dagger from the barrow before confronting Shelob.

Re: Dual Wielding
I am ready to lock this thread, (and another thread simultaneously, of course, being a dual wielding admin) at any time.
Play nicely please. Some people like dual wielding, some people don't.

Re: Dual Wielding
Dual-wielding implies a higher than normal level of weapon training and is as much (or more) about defense as it is about offense. The secondary weapon would be used mostly to parry--only attacking when an especially good opportunity presents itself (say, when one's primary weapon is locked with the weapon of one's opponent). A possible template exists in the Cultural Virtue of Shield-fighting for the Culture Men of the Lake.
