Well it depends on how you treated the Beorning culture... in the Hobbit we're told that Gandalf ate two loaves of bread all by himself (with honey and cream) and with plenty of mead to wash them down. Plus this was after several large meals that feed 14-15 people. That implies a decent amount of farming, and Beorn seems to treat animals as useful companions not portable meals.

But, it's relatively easy to fix everything... As you suggest, the society can be in transition. Or the festival can be a touch later in the year and is a final celebration before everyone holes up for the winter and lives off of their salted meats and tubers. The Sickle can be more symbolic in that case... I think it's pretty clear that Beorn doesn't eat meat himself, so maybe it just represents their lord's approach to life, rather than being of practical benefit.

I like that. For now the symbolic solution will do. It should be enough motivation for Beorn’s followers to wish to win a sign of prosperity and protection, winter blessing (short, dark days, so the name of Sickle fits, too). At some point, a few years later into transition, Festival may be moved to earlier date as farming becomes more popular. Then the Sickle will fully serve intended purpose. Thanks!

First : Great Job ! Some really nice ideas totally suited to the spirit of the game and the setting as I understand it. Plus your job on the pdf document is very nice.

Second : a list of typos I noted when I downloaded from the pdf link at the beginning of the thread. I put in bold font the part where i think there may be an error and in parentheses at the end a comment or the possible correction.

Page 1 at the very beginning :
« This is a fan-made introductory adventure for The One Ring Roleplaying Game by Sophisicated Games and Cubicle 7 Ltd. » (Sophisticated ?)

Page 1, second column :
« When pressed on the matter, Beorn showed his new thanes his sickle, a heirloom of times lone gone. » (long ?)

Page 2, near top of first column :
« Non-Beornings are allowed to win individual contests but wont be selected for the Sickle. » (the ' in won't doesn't appear written right in the pdf document -I see some kind of square as you get when you use an unsupported font character- though it's ok if you copy/paste the sentence; this may come from my Acrobat reader or be somehow linked to the font you used to create the text.)

Page 4, end of first paragraph & beginning of second one, first column :
« If their suspicions have been raised, they might be near the Marshalls tent… the Marshalls tent has been ransacked! » (same problem as previous one with ' in Marshall's, both times).

Page 4, second column in « Playing Thorbald » :
« … you're upset and a bit nervous that every will blame you for the attack. » (everyone ?)

Page 5, first column, first paragraph :
« it might even mean that they are note the only part to track the thieves! » (not ?)

Page 5, bottom of first column :
« … he will willing divulge this information...  » (he will be willing ?)

Page 6, second column, second paragraph :
« … unless the purposely kill the thieves. » (they ?)

Page 6, second column, last paragraph :
« … Cenric will either fling at them... » (fling it ?)

Page 7, first column, last paragraph :
« … (saying that Sickle's rightful owner is Viglund, not Beorn) ... » (that the Sickle's ?)

Page 7, second column, in Jarn's description :
« … success will grant Cedric gold but any failure... » (Jarn ?)

Page 8, first column, « Returning the Sickle » :
« … they will need to go the Beorn's Halls instead. Unless the heroes have boats or other means of crossing the Anduin at a place other than the Old Ford, the journey to Beorn's Halls... » (Hall ? Coherence with map on some previous page)

Page 8, second column, « A Time for Fellowship » :
« … If they find themselves at Beorn's Halls...  » (Same as just above)

Who Hoo! Thank you so much for catching all of these! I'm in the process of expanding the adventure, meaning some of these might have been caught (and new ones introduced :)), but it always helps to know where to look first.

For a couple of things, I think I will need to clarify... the entry on Jarn is trying to say that if Cedric succeeds he'll be paid, but if he betrays Jarn (e.g. is convinced to betray him by the PCs) then it's bad news for the mercenary.

Beorn's Hall / Halls / House is a good question. The LM map in the revised edition calls it Beorn's House, and Heart calls it the House of Beorn. Tales calls it Beorn's House or the Hall of Beorn in different places. Huh. I guess I will go with Beorn's House and correct it accordingly.

Incidentally, here's a snapshot of where I'm at presently. Note that this doesn't have the troublesome fonts converted, so you might expect to see weirdness, especially in the headers. And the layout is borked, as I'm moving things around (remember Looping... do as I say, not as I do! ;))

Really nice artwork in your booklet.
For the 'Cedric' business, i understand better now. But then shouldn't it be Cenric instead ?

Wow! Your little (actually, it's no longer very little) adventure looks amazing, zedturtle! The artwork is impressive, and quality-wise it almost looks as good as what C7 puts out! Nicely done! :)

Hi zedturtle

As promised I have worked on a translation in french of this cool adventure.

I was lucky to get some help from MarcB who has an excellent blog in french full of resources, and he did his own version of the artwork, quite different from yours.

Since I like both, I figured we could have the two different versions around :

The one based on your artwork (based on my limited skills and tools)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/gghbdpy98odxc ... f.pdf?dl=0

The one with new artwork
[Temporary removed to deal with copyright issues]

By the way, for the french speakers, I can only encourage you to check Marc's blog.

Those are fantastic! More later, when I have a real keyboard.

Interesting, is there perhaps a connection between this MarcB and the excellent computer game "Banner Saga"?
