Adventurer's Companion - Speculation
Hi guys,
I was wondering what you expected for upcoming TOR release the Adventurer's companion.
They mention a new calling "Captain".
I've been thinking about it, and noticed that of the current callings, there are two skill categories that only appear ONE time: Vocation (Scholar) and Custom (Wanderer, I think). Do you think the Captain will be Vocation/Custom, OR, more like Personality/Vocation (or something else)?
Do you think Dwarves of the Blue Mountains will be a completely distinct culture from Dwarves of Erebor, as High Elves are to Elves of Mirkwood; or, do you think they will be simply an iteration of Dwarves of Erebor, a la Woodmen of Mountain Hall? Same thing with Elves of Lorien? My guess is that they will use the High Elf of Rivendell rules, and simply have a slightly different skill set and perhaps some new Valour/Blessings options?
Ruins of the North: my guess is, this will be very dangerous/difficult. TfW got quite dangerous there at the end, and I'm guessing RotN will take it up a notch.
What do you all speculate?
C7, we are looking forward to updates on this!

Dual Wielding, an Istari culture, and damage mitigation from Armor of course.
It's been confirmed, but only on the Spanish forums.

Dwarves of the Blue Mountains. I think that they won't be too different from Dain's Folk, but they will represent one of the other six clans of the Dwarves. The surviving folk of the Dwarf-cities of Belegost and/or Nogrod might have returned to the Ered Luin following the fall of Khazad-dum. The Dwarves of Belegost were on friendlier terms with Elves then were their neighbors in Nogrod and would have gotten on well with Cirdan and his folk.
Possible adventure hook: Arvedui, the last king of Arthedain, hid for a time in deserted Dwarf-mines in the northern Blue Mountains following Arethedain's fall to Angmar. Perhaps the Dunedain king left some artifact of his kingdom in those mines?

Dwarves of the Blue Mountains: I see them as not so Rich as the ones from Erebor. Also (or maybe because of that), they should be better traders and travellers. Better also at social skills, although not too much. I also think they shouldn't have mattocks as weapon. Crossbows and throwing axes? Maybe a new weapon, the warhammer, is added to the armory. All in all, I see them as a variant of the Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain, but not too different.
Elves of Lorien: Great Bow instead of Bow, and swords instead of spears. Otherwise, I can't see many differences with the Elves of Mirkwood, although we could find some if needed.
Regarding the new Calling, the Vocation/Custom skill categories will be reserved for the future Calling "Wandering Istar".

I can definitely see new weapons appearing in this supplement.
And maybe some new Qualities/Rewards and Mastery/Virtues choices, perhaps depending on calling?
Combat tasks?

Dung fork as favoured weapon for Bree folk. I called it first

The dwarves of the Blue Mountains in the Third Age are of Durin's folk. No dwarves remained in the Blue Mountains when Belegost and Nogrod were destroyed.

After the destruction of Belegost and Nogrod, at least some of the survivors among the Broadbeams and Firebeards relocated to Moria. Their descendants could have moved back to the Erid Luin when Khazad-dum was abandoned. There is no indication that all of the Blue Mountain Dwarves had to have been of Durin's Folk.Stormcrow wrote:The dwarves of the Blue Mountains in the Third Age are of Durin's folk. Apparently, The History of Middle-earth Vol. XII gives some indications of where the various Dwarf-clans were situated:
- The Longbeards (Durin's Folk) built Khazad-dum, with settlements in Erebor and the Iron Hills.
- The Broadbeams founded Belegost in the Ered Luin.
- The Firebeards founded Nogrod in the Ered Luin.
- The Ironfists, Blacklocks, Stiffbeards and Stonefoots were scattered throughout the Orocarni (Red Mountains) in the East.
