Kairos: Any product in this line is a must have for me as well.
Beleg & Ferretz: Yes, I also read every page & love the borders. They're evocative of the Middle-earth flavor that makes this game a unique representation of the professor's books.
Heart of the Wild available now?

Drat! HotW comes out just as my group ends our TOR campaign. Oh, well.

Unfortunately, I don't really see that happening. The person who was running it is pretty much the Tolkien specialist in our group...we are all fans, but he knows the most on the subject. It was just getting to much of a time strain for him balancing RL and the game. Also, the lackluster (I am being much kinder then he) Hobbit movie kind of put a bad spin on things Tolkien for him.
So, on to Shadowrun 5th Ed. for our group.

That is a shame since the game is tied only to the books.Beran wrote:Also, the lackluster (I am being much kinder then he) Hobbit movie kind of put a bad spin on things Tolkien for him.

Yikes, I loved the Hobbit movie, being a big Peter Jackson fan. As a LM, I find inspiration in the movies as much as in the books.
If the LM quits, pick up that role yourself. Its very rewarding running a campaign. Especially in The One Ring.

For myself I can say that I didn't like The Hobbit movie either. In fact I am not sure if I will be seeing the next two installments. If I do it will be to see Smaug and the Battle of Five Armies; but it won't be in 3d...not worth the price of admission, IMO.
As for picking the game up myself...I am afraid I like the game, but the setting doesn't currently contain the elements I like about the story (ie Rangers, Rohan and Gondor.) Not so bad really, the group member who has taken the reigns is a big fan SR and the game will be good. For myself it has allowed me to begin study of the wonderous world that is Victoriana.
Re: Heart of the Wild available now?
Well, I'm the other way around. Although I really enjoy the setting in the books, Tolkien's writing sometimes try my patience too much. I remember last time I tried to read the trilogy (I've read it several times). I couldn't get past all the stuff with the Ent Moot, for some reason. I think it was the description of Quickbeam that made me stop...
I promise, I will try again soon.
But, I love the movies, both the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit. That said, I think you'd better see them all, since Mirkwood and Smaug is in the second movie, and the Battle of Five Armies is in the third, from last I heard.
I tried Shadowrun years back, but it didn't work for me. I like hard sci-fi, and I like fantasy. I just didn't like the mashup between the two. However, I really like Iron Kingdoms, which is fantasy with a twist...
Anyway, to each his own, I suppose. And to get the thread back on topic, I must say I love how the hints and references to Darkening of Mirkwood is spread throughout Hear of the Wild. Won't be long until we beg for release dates and pdfs for Darkening too.
