Thank you! I got the hunch it wasn't only an elvish thing...

Dwarves FOUND the Arkenstone under the Lonely Mountain. High elves MADE gems with light in them. The Arkenstone may be cut magnificently, but the dwarves aren't responsible for its inner light.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a gem (inspired by Galadriel's phial, of course) whose light varies with the bearer's Valour or Wisdom (higher value?) but that flares up with the light of the sun when a Hope point is spent.

That doesn't fit exactly in with the Wondrous Artefact rules, of course. Although such an item could also provide a wisdom bonus to a skill, the flaring light isn't exactly the same as a magical success at a skill.

Still, I like it.

I like this idea too, but, it might step on the toes of the Mirwood Elf undertaking, Study with Ormal the Lampmaker, which gives a nice expansion to the Wood-Elf Magic virtue.
They can spend a point of Hope to cause their Elf-Lights to blaze like the light of the Sun, causing 1 point loss of hate for all creatures with "Hate Sunlight", and canceling the ability Denizen of the Dark for a few rounds, too.

Yeah, I don't think I'd put one in the treasure index of a group that had an elf going that route. A faintly glowing gem at most, in that case.

That makes sense... have the ability available when it won't overlap. I do really like abilities that cause loss of Hate to enemies.

For an elf you could go with a stone that enhanced their Elf Light. Perhaps one that didn't require the point of Hope to relight after having it flare up and protect them. Or one that had an increased effect when used.

This is already in the game, see Heart of the Wild (search for the new fellowship Phase undertaking Study with Ormal the Lampmaker)!

I know, that's what I was referring to, a magical elf stone that enhances one/some of those abilities.

Oh, my bad. Yes, that would be cool to see!
