Monster armor

Post by modsr » Tue Sep 23, 2014 6:50 pm

I just noticed that all of the monsters have at least 2d armor, which seems kinda high (bats and all). My question is more from a narrative standpoint: do you see goblins, snagas and other smaller orcs who have armor 2d as actually wearing armor or their armor value being a representation of something else (like the bats' armor)?

I would say I think it's an abstraction some combination of actual wearable armor, what D&D might call "natural armor" and simply a natural toughness, resilience, or pain tolerance.

I definitely wouldn't overthink it. Bats are not wearing leather corslets.

Can you translate the cost in Treasure Points, Elfcrusher? My players might want to buy this armour in the Lake-town marketplace.

Love it, Elf.

Most enemies are slain after a single wound, so they all have decent armor, or better, to prevent the players from becoming a traveling meat grinder. If they're not literally sporting leather, then I agree that it's just natural resilience.
"What happens now?"
"Well, I guess there would be an awkward pause in the conversation."
"How long of a pause? Is it six seconds long?"
"Yeah, I'd imagine so."
"I fire another arrow!"
