Question about Ancient Close Fitting

I think if they wanted to say that the attack hits but doesn't score a Piercing Blow, it would have either said it that way or stated that the Protection roll is automatically successful.

A miss is a miss.

I agree RaW, clearly the whole attack misses. RaI, I think otherwise. I was kind of hoping that one of the writers could shed some insight on how the ability was intended.

Looking the section over, I see that Superior Reinforced for shields can make a non-piercing blow miss in the same fashion, so I think it's pretty clear that the intent is that the whole attack misses for Ancient Close Fitting as well.
