Amazon preorder dates keep changing?
Amazon preorder dates keep changing?
Hi,
I ordered my copies of the new hardcover rules and Rivendell from Amazon.
The shipdate has continually been pushed back, and is now unknown for both titles. I haven't seen a topic for US or Amazon customers here that's been continually updated, so I thought I'd start one.
What's going on with these orders? I placed mine right after Gen Con.
Any updates would be appreciated.

Never trust Amazon with a release date. They are made of lies.
Rivendell hasn't been shipped yet, so there is no way Amazon has it.
You may consider buying it directly from Cube7. You will get the book as soon as it is released, and will get the pdf of it now while you wait.

The dates are based on information given to them by the publisher months before release. As such, they can often be way out of date and shouldn't be trusted.doctheweasel wrote:Never trust Amazon with a release date. They are made of lies.
C7 preorders ship books as soon as they can, but this can be after the book is released in stores as TOR corebook shows.doctheweasel wrote:You may consider buying it directly from Cube7. You will get the book as soon as it is released, and will get the pdf of it now while you wait.

Ok, then here's another reason to buy direct rather than through Amazon: C7 has a higher gross margin if you skip the middleman, and not only would I rather give my money to Dom and Andrew and Jon and Nick than to Jeff Bezos, but I want those guys to make enough money doing this that they keep doing it for a long time.

This isn't the case, somewhat bizarrely. We often see titles we've talked about in the vaguest terms, but not put into our production schedule, nor communicated to our distributors, given release dates on Amazon. It's something of a mystery how this comes about.skywalker wrote:doctheweasel wrote: The dates are based on information given to them by the publisher months before release.

IIRC, Amazon website needs to have a release date for its products.Jon Hodgson wrote: This isn't the case, somewhat bizarrely. So when it doesn't have one through the publisher, it creates one. And changes it when it becomes too close.
Third reason to pre-order through Cubicle 7 : you have a nice PDF with your book (and since it's based in the UK, the shipping cost to Europe is not too high).
Re: Amazon preorder dates keep changing?
Thanks Jon, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for explaining that, I always assumed it was pretty random,
I don't know what to say to everyone else who replied, especially Dalraida who didn't even read my first post where I said I wasn't in Europe.
I buy through Amazon because simply put, I couldn't afford both books without the discounts and Prime shipping applied.
Additionally, I really don't have any use for digital products with a static layout. I don't have a double-width-A4 tablet to read them on, and the print is already small in these books, so the value of a PDF to me is zero.
Anyway, I was just looking for some info and I got it. I can wait (no game going right now anyway)
