Expanded Enchanted Qualities
I'm working on a list of new options for Enchanted Qualities of Famous Weapons & Armor. As discussed in another thread, I'm including many qualities that are currently used in cultural rewards. Because treasure is created via Magical Indices, not randomly, LMs have several options for including these 'reserved' qualities:
1) Only for players who have already taken the relevant cultural reward
2) Only for players from relevant cultures.
3) Only if no players have expressed interest in the relevant cultural reward
4) Ignore them (the reserved qualities, that is, not the offended players)
And with that....
Accurate
Craftsmanship: Any
Item: Bows
Special: replicates Hobbit cultural reward
When making a ranged attack, add to your rolls a bonus of +3, or your Valour rating (whichever is higher).
Ancient Tempered
Craftsmanship: Any
Item: Close Combat Weapon
When you successfully attack an adversary, increase your Parry versus that adversary by 2 per success (so +6 on an Extraordinary Success) until your next turn.
Bulwark of Hope
Craftsmanship: Any
Item: Shield, Helm
Woven with spells and engraved with runes to protect its owner from the most fearsome abilities of the Enemy’s minions, this item grants the owner a Blessing (add Wisdom to roll) whenever resisting Dreadful Spells used by adversaries.
Blessed
Craftsmanship: Elven, Numenorean
Item: Close Combat Weapon
Special: Bane
Touched with a remnant of the light of the two trees, this weapon drains a point of Hate from Bane creatures for each extra success rolled during a successful attack (that is, one point on a Great Success, two points on an Extraordinary Success.) Additionally, the wielder may spend a point of Hope to cause the weapon to flare with brilliant light for one minute, increasing by one the number of successes from any successful Intimidate Foe or Rally Comrade combat task.
Dwarf-wrought
Craftsmanship: Dwarven
Item: Mail Armour
Special: replicates Dwarven cultural reward
When you invoke an Attribute on a Protection test, use your favoured Body rating as a bonus.
Hardened
Craftsmanship: Any
Item: Armour
Special: replicates Hobbit cultural reward
When you make a Protection test, roll the Feat die twice and keep the better result.
Hated
Craftsmanship: Elven, Numenorean
Item: Close Combat Weapon
Special: Bane
Bane creatures recognize and fear this dreaded weapon, and gain the Hatred special ability against its wielder. On a successful Intimidate Foe, however, Bane creatures engaged with the wielder lose all attribute level bonuses.
Ironbane
Craftsmanship: Elven
Item: Dagger, Short Sword
Forged in Beleriand in elder days, this blade is infused with spells that allow it to cleave iron. Enemies wearing non-enchanted mail armour roll two fewer Success dice when making Protection tests against this weapon. Additionally, on a successful Craft test the owner is able to cut through normal iron such as chains or bars.
Noble Protector
Craftsmanship: Dwarven
Item: Shield
When using the Protect Companion combat task, your Parry is increased by your Valour score against the intercepted attack. If the attack misses completely your point of Hope is refunded.
Piercing
Craftsmanship: Dwarven
Item: Spear
Special: replicates Barding cultural reward
When thrown, roll the Feat die twice and keep the better result.
Quick
Craftsmanship: Elven
Item: Bow
Special: replicates Elven (Mirkwood) cultural reward
This bow allows the wielder an extra opening volley, even when no volley would normally be allowed.
Scion’s String
Craftsmanship: Elven
Item: Bow
Once per turn, on a successful attack that results in a Wound, immediately make another attack against any enemy within range.
Smiting
Craftsmanship: Dwarven
Item: Great Axe
Special: replicates Dwarven cultural reward
When you are attack an enemy with an Attribute level of 7 or less, if you get a Gandalf on the Feat die using this axe, your opponent is made Weary for the remainder of the combat.
1) Only for players who have already taken the relevant cultural reward
2) Only for players from relevant cultures.
3) Only if no players have expressed interest in the relevant cultural reward
4) Ignore them (the reserved qualities, that is, not the offended players)

Re: Expanded Enchanted Qualities
Comments:
Noble Protector does feel very powerful. Against low-level adversaries this would provide near immunity (especially if the shield has other bonuses), but against high-level adversaries with favoured attacks the +Valour is nice but not a guaranteed miss by any stretch.
I got the core idea for Blessed from Robin Smallburrow.
And I forgot who (Falenthal?) gave me the idea for Bastion; somebody was working on a quality that would provide Valour bonus to Wisdom rolls or vice versa. I'm not sure what I think about a Blessing to a Wisdom roll, though...seems a bit self-referential. The roll becomes Xd6+X.
Scion's String: No, the wielder is not also granted the ability to run up Mumakil trunks or surf on shields.

Some nice ideas there EC. I'll take a longer look over them when I have time as I'm prepping for a new One Ring game tomorrow evening.

Thanks. I'm also working on some Wondrous Items, but I like some of them so much I think I'll keep them secret until my players find them.Hermes Serpent wrote:Some nice ideas there EC. I'll take a longer look over them when I have time as I'm prepping for a new One Ring game tomorrow evening.

Re: Expanded Enchanted Qualities
That's one of the tasks I have to do before tomorrow's session. I know what some of the PC's are going to be but not others (?%£@! procrastinating gamers) so some of the goodies will have to be done at the weekend.

Re: Expanded Enchanted Qualities
Thanks for fixing up the 'hallowed' question for me Elfcrusher, very happy with what you came up with here, although I think the description should be amended to read:
"Touched by a remnant of the light of the Two Trees or by the hand of one of the Valar, this weapon..."
This satisfies the main reference that Tolkien refers to: "Hallowed by ...." Such items are of course considered holy and reverenced by certain cultures, a PC coming across such an item may require it's own adventure.....
