EXP/Advancement Points

Post by HotSnow50 » Thu Oct 09, 2014 6:08 am

How I understand Advancement Points is, when you use a common skill corresponding to one of the 6 skill groups, you generate a "tick" for that group, up to 3 ticks max per session, and at the end of the session in the Fellowship phase you add all those up and get your Advancement Point total. The corebook explains something about working towards your company goals (I am pretty sure I understand company goals) giving you experience, but...

HELP!!

Umm... so what's your question?
I smashed down the light and dared Valinor

You know, I looked deeper into the Core Book and found the answers... Page 212 in the 2014 edition has some of the answers I have been seeking...

I'm sorry for the confusion!! And thank you for the quick response...

I am embarrassed that I missed the answer in the text that I had right in front of me :(... I spent an hour re-reading that darned section earlier, too!!

I guess the one question that still remains for me is, "do I buy skill upgrades with Advancement Points AS WELL AS Experience points? Does one get used for Weapon Skills and one for Common Skills?

While I understand how they accrue, I still don't understand how they are used... :(

Advancement Points are for Common Skills; Experience Points are for Weapon Skills, Valour, Wisdom and other special stuff. The Fellowship Phase section should have all the rules you are looking for.

It could totally be just the way I am learning the game too, Man. I am teaching myself as I go and I have nobody to bounce ideas off of but y'all here, as I am the one that will be teaching all my buds how to play (if they're still interested). That being said, I've read through that section, I guess I'm just reading to quickly...

Thanks for the help, dude! :D

I don't know if you've checked it out already, but my introductory adventure is designed to introduce the rules of TOR to players in an orderly fashion; it might help. Seeing the kinds of questions you have, I might expand it some too; right now I'm doing a lot of page number references where a discussion of how and why the rules work might be better.
