I appreciate your appreciation of the Rules as Written , but in a PbP game, with a 48 hour turn time what you just described could take up to 20 days to resolve, which is plain unworkable.

I almost never "act" my role playing. I tend to describe what my character is doing, sometime in extensive detail.

The exception, I have discovered fairly recently, is in PbP, where I have time to compose ideas, and I don't have to voice act it.

But either way I prefer "roll then narrate".
