The 'Swift' Trait
Re: The 'Swift' Trait
I wouldn't allow anyone to repeatedly hide and pop out in the middle of combat, no matter what trait they invoked.

Maybe a hobbit fishing for permanent shadow points.Stormcrow wrote:I wouldn't allow anyone to repeatedly hide and pop out in the middle of combat, no matter what trait they invoked.

Re: The 'Swift' Trait
Well, do remember it's an 'every other round' strategy.
But sometimes, when one guy is outnumbered, and the fellowship's not handy...you gotta do stealth kills. Which the TOR system isn't really built for, so you gotta improvise. The system was never really designed for sustained stealth attacks.

Exactly. I'm completely mystified how you have characters stealth in combat (you don't just have them roll stealth and on a success the enemy no longer sees them, do you?), and what good it does them since there's no mechanical bonus for attacking from stealth.Angelalex242 wrote:Well, do remember it's an 'every other round' strategy.

It's not like a successful Stealth roll gives you the power of the One Ring.

Re: The 'Swift' Trait
No, it doesn't. But this sort of attack and disappear fighting style...

Well, I never found a good way to emulate what Leonardo does in the aforementioned video. Note he would've died without that whole stealthkill strategy.

Re: The 'Swift' Trait
He jumps into a hole in the wall and the other guy who was looking right at him can't figure out where he went? That's not even remotely plausible. This is not a fighting style outside of a video game.
Re: The 'Swift' Trait
I think that's what Battle Advantatge dice are for.
You use one dice and say "I manage to hide among the bushes while my comrades are fighting the orcs. I wait until I see the back of the chieftain and attack from behind." You should have engaged the chieftain at the beginning of the round and use your bonus dice to power up your attack.

Re: The 'Swift' Trait
This thread has given me lots of new ideas for how to use TOR common skills in combat.
Riddle: on a successful roll you confuse two adversaries so thoroughly that they attack each other (c.f. "Confusion" from D&D Player's Handbook)
Athletics: any maneuver that, in a Hong Kong martial arts film, would require the use of a wire
Insight: guess your opponent's next move. On a success you can choose to add the result of a success die (or multiple dice on great/extraordinary successes) to either your next Parry roll, or your own damage.
Awareness: Matrix. Neo. Slow-motion. 'Nuff said.
Craft: Use your turn to create a small device. This device can be used to blind, stun, distract, ensnare, or hypnotize (pick one, or two if you spend a point of Hope) It can be used on the following round.
Travel: Nightcrawler's common skill of choice. "BAMF!"
Persuade: Charm Person redux.
Battle: Anything else. "I want to make a Whirlwind attack, hitting every goblin within range in one swing." "Ok, roll Battle."

Nice use of TOR for Supers, video game, or Hong Kong action flick, EC!
