TfW Spoilers - An Origin Story for GK?
Does anyone have any good ideas for the origins of that evil and malignant spirit? Especially what he might have been it life or "life"?

Being as he's just supposed to have been a "jailer and torturer", rather than something like a King, I'd never really planned to elaborate much more than what is written in that short segment in the adventure. It might be fun to colletively flesh it out a bit more, though.

Yeah, part of the way I'm going in his current state of mind is that he is claiming grandiose things for himself currently. But since one of my characters is trying to investigate/glean his past, I'd like to do something interesting with it.

Re: TfW Spoilers - An Origin Story for GK?
I think I might be able to bring some additional insight to the part. For almost two decades, I have worked as a "jailer" (though I hate that term; technically I'm a corrections deputy for a Sheriff's Office). Never been a torturer, though.

Aw, come on, Majestic. Most guys would give their left nut to be a "jailer". Have no shame. That's a fine title. It's got a very Eddie Izzard "New York/Death Star" feel to it.
"What are you?"
"I'm a jailer"
"What do you do?"
"I jail people, buddy! Now get out of my way!"

Thanks, Rocmistro, I do appreciate that. But for whatever reason, I don't like the term. My official title went from being Custody Officer (or Officer, or CO) to a Corrections Deputy (when our Sheriff's Office took over). But to the criminal element I'm still just a "5-O", "cop", or the like. For whatever reason, I hate "guard" (sounds too much like a mall cop) and "jailer".

Ok, so are we thinking a human jailer, given more power and responsibilty by Sauron in order to fulfill his duties.. something that was gradual...?

I think a Human jailer would be most likely, though I perhaps an Orc would be a possibility as well.
I think his road to corruption would be similar to what you see for the Warden, where even good intentions can end up succumbing to the Lure of Power.

I'll put my money on a lesser evil Maia. That would explain why he's powerful enough to be back. Or stretching the canon, a very corrupted Elf who refused the Summon of Mandos after dying and is a Hoseless now (disembodied evil spirit).
No matter how often they appear in TOR, Mannish ghosts should be very, very rare to say the least because the Summon of Mandos is mandatory for the race of Man.
