Map - dilema

Post by Lorimez » Mon Oct 27, 2014 6:05 pm

Hi all :D

Just wanting some help with maps for TOR. I've only got into TOR since the new hardback book set came into effect and LOVE the game already. My issue I have is with the maps. I have printed out the pdf versions of the Loremaster map and players map and they don't really look good at A3 size.

Having spoken to a friend, he showed me the original maps that came in the first rule book set and they look fantastic!

Is there any more of these maps or are Cubicle 7 considering selling seperately?

If no - then what do you all use? I was considering buying the WETA version so my players could map where they've been too and from with some overlay and soluable pens etc.

Would really like some help as I'm disappointed with the pdf versions.

Regards

Gary

There is news about maps coming, but we don't have details yet.

Your printer may support printing "posters." Open the map in Adobe Reader and go to the Print dialog. Under Page Sizing and Handling click Poster. There are various options you can specify. It'll print a multi-page map which can be cut out and assembled.

If your printer doesn't support it, you can print the poster to PDF, then print THAT PDF normally. If you don't have a PDF printer installed, you can get a free one—for instance, CutePDF.

I printed the maps this way and got maps nearly as good as the originals. My players thought they WERE the originals.

Thanks for the feedback.

Think I'll wait until a "map announcement" is made and then go from there.

Thanks again.

Glad it sounds like there's something coming soon, as I imagine this will be an ongoing issue as people get the new book.

I've actually got a second set (well, I gave them to my son, along with my old rulebooks), from when C7 sent me a replacement (for mine that fell apart). Sadly, the binding on my second set of books is also starting to fail, but I think I'm getting the hardback one anyway. I'd consider sending my second set to you, but would prefer keeping them as a backup. They're quite nice, and it's good to hear that there'll be something available for those don't have one.

Take the pdfs in flash drive form to Costco, who can print out (and laminate even) poster-sized map(s) for you at around $10 each!

That's a good point. Not just Costco, but many of the other office supply type stores can do this for pretty cheap (Staples, Office Depot, Kinko's, etc.)

Having them laminated would make them so you couldn't fold them up, but would protect them from spills, marks, and the like.

Thanks fellow hobbits!

Think I might try my local printers and go from there - certainly a solution for now :)

You may want to keep the option to write on the player's map, since the players can use it to keep track of where they've been and thus where they can go during a fellowship phase.
